RIP Chinatown Fair

Post by pakopako »

Another arcade bites the dust.

This won't mean much to anyone not in the area, but a local parlor has just shuttered its doors after decades of token-crunching goodness. To some, it was just another dark, loud hole-in-the-wall. To me, it was Street Fighter, Dance Dance Revolution, Operation Wolf, Indiana Jones Pinball, Pole Position, Gauntlet, and once, going head-to-head against a live chicken.

News article.

The news isn't surprising, as arcades have been on a steep decline for years since gaming began moving online, and the arcade owners have stated they were merely moving, but a fellow poster from another board (*cough*thatfewhereseemtolike*cough*) said it best when they compared it to when musical pit CBGB moved away. People will cope, adapt, and go elsewhere, but it just won't be the same.
My scheduling skills have died of dysentery; I hope to visit at least on a monthly basis.
Still, don't forget to tip your waitress.

Wow, that place was always crowded enough that I figured it was sustainable, so this is really sad and surprising news. This place was the last of a breed -- it wasn't a corporatized and sanitized arcade for yuppies like D&B; it was a dark, crowded and musty 80s style arcade.

A shame another Arcade dying.

I remember going to an Arcade called Nickel City. A couple bucks to get in and the Arcades only cost a nickel. Most of the cabinets are Retro in the late 90s era, but there are a few new ones. In fact there are some older Retro Cabs that are set to Free Play! This is where I discovered Puzz Loop, the original that inspired Pop Cap's Zuma series and Magnetica on the DS and Wii.

Holy crap! This arcade is still alive, its an hour drive, I have got to get back there before they shut down.

I thought this was another Nickel Nickel arcade eventhough its a different name.

They just Closed down Nickel Nickel 5 Cent Games.

I was at chinatown Fair Arcade got to play a little of Super Street fighter 4 Arcade edition. I chose Akuma new evil version ... kinda hard because I don't know his moves. They had about Six unts of SSF4 A ed. of course they have the other ones.
