Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Currently the Alien thing "Prometheus" is up in the air. I've heard back and forth that it will be a prequel to Alien, or that they couldn't secure the rights or something so it'll be a brand new IP... I have no idea. It's not a remake though, so I'm slightly interested with Ridley Scott involved and all.

If Carpenter is in charge of the new Escape then I guess that's awesome to hear. How about Kurt though?

Sounds like modern gaming in a nutshell!

Getting replaced by Gerald Butler apparently.

Well apparently the Alien prequel/remake/whatever it was going to be is dead.

...they've reworked it into an original project! This news is a month and a half old, sure, but it's good news regardless.

Yeah I mentioned that already, though I think even more recently Scott has claimed again "it will have a definite connection", so I have no idea what to believe so far. Rumors are it'll involve the space jockey, which to me honestly sounds like a bad move... that scene in the original Alien was so amazingly creepy, and it's just one of those things we don't really need explored because the mysteriousness made it so awesome. Least in my opinion.

So yeah, don't know what to think so far. Being a new IP could be good though, considering how much Fox ruined the Alien franchise.

It's not artistic bankruptcy, it's cashing in on an established name because it's less 'risky' than an original idea. Don't think that has a lot to do with this though.

This looks like its actually an adaptation of the manga and not a remake of the Stallone movie:

Still not an original idea, but honestly adapting something as fairly obscure as this is okay in my book.

Hehe I don't consider Cobra obscure but I know what you mean. And Stallone's Cobra didn't have a gun for an arm :D

I probably should've put "obscure" in quotes, I only meant that average movie audiences aren't likely to be aware of the source material.

Yeah I brought it up in the anime thread. For some reason I'm actually pretty okay and cautiously optimistic about it. The Cobra manga is already extremely Western influenced (the author states Barbarella is a big one) and was huge in France, which I believe the director for this is French and not some huge Hollywood name. Cobra is a smug Bond kind of guy going around space kicking ass and picking up femme fatale's along the way constantly. If that picture is what he'll look like I'm pretty impressed.

Cobra is very simplistic and would be hard to fuck up, but who knows. I hope it works out though.

A Spy Kids remake would be ridiculous. A remake of a mediocre movie that came out less than a decade ago? What's the point? Just make something new.
