Atlus is making a remake of Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor for the 3DS. The original game is just barely even a year old! Also, it looks practically identical to the original DS version.

I could go for that too, but looking at the trends nowadays, say comparing T1/T2 to T3/T4, I couldn't imagine a new Escape would be that great or capture the spirit of the old ones.Limewater wrote:I would be interested in them making a new Escape movie, but I want to see another sequel, not a remake.Ryvius wrote: Had no idea they were planning a new Escape From New York, haha wow. That and Robocop, Total Recall (supposedly starring Colin Farrell), etc, I NEVER want to see truly happen.

The backlash against this has been amazing. almost every actor I can think of who has been in Buffy or Angel has expressed their dissaproval and I have heard of a petition going around online and on facebook boycotting this movieFlake wrote:Agreed. I am sick of remakes and reboots. They are always god awful and lazy.
For instance, I am chilled to the bone that Buffy the Vampire Slayer is getting a Whedon-less reboot. That projects very existence begs the questions 'Why!?' and 'What the hell is wrong with Hollywood!?'
I'm not expecting much, but you never know. In fairness to the movie makers, Joss was asked to work with them in some way and he turned them down

I don't really pay enough attention to the movie industry to be angered by it, but I agree with you.

It could if John Carpenter and Kurt Russell remained involved.Ryvius wrote: I could go for that too, but looking at the trends nowadays, say comparing T1/T2 to T3/T4, I couldn't imagine a new Escape would be that great or capture the spirit of the old ones.

Yeah. I don't get that. I mean, I liked Devil Survivor but it wasn't anything worth remaking this soon. A sequel based on the Atsuro ending would be interesting though.lisalover1 wrote:Atlus is making a remake of Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor for the 3DS. On the one hand, Aronofsky is a huge plus. On the other, but original movie was a pretty damn good blend of awesome as is, where the sequels were very forgettable. I'd just as soon leave it alone.Jrecee wrote:I'm interested in Robocop if Aronofsky does it. Also want to see a new Turtles movie. I wouldn't mind a gremlins sequel, but I don't know why they'd remake/reboot it.
That list of planned and rumored remakes is mostly ridiculous.

I'm actually really excited for some of these. Like the Escape From NY remake. The original director is still in charge. Same with Alien, it's being done by Ridley Scott. Akira could also be cool. And any super hero/comic book movie remake is bound to be a step up.
But yeah, most of those and most remakes in general are terrible. Some are good though, it just depends on who's involved. True Grit was much better than the original one.

The thing is, with all the remakes coming out left and right, it's starting to feel over saturated at best. Even remakes that could be really interesting or even GOOD are going to get lost in this sea of new-old movies. We need a hell of a lot fewer remakes, period. Besides, an Alien remake would be stupid. There's very little dated about the original film.darthmunky wrote:I'm actually really excited for some of these. Like the Escape From NY remake. Don't say it's because Hollywood is out of ideas either. That's bullshit, Hollywood has TONS of new ideas, they just keep passing them over in favor of brand recognition.
