...and franchise reboots, stop that shit too.

I'm sure everyone has noticed this, it seems like 90 percent of the big movies that come out are some sort of remake or franchise reboot.

I found this somewhat old article here that lists a ton currently in production:
http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/450292/ ... works.html

I mean shit, you have stuff like Short Circuit, Escape From New York, and The Birds, which are already terrible ideas to begin with and will only serve to cheapen the significance of classic films and cult favorites, but then you have remakes of movies like Spy Kids and American Pie, movies that aren't even that old to begin with.

It's driving me nuts at this point, and every time a new remake or reboot comes up, even if it's a franchise that could really use a good reboot, I can't help but wince. Enough already!

Agreed. I am sick of remakes and reboots. They are always god awful and lazy.

For instance, I am chilled to the bone that Buffy the Vampire Slayer is getting a Whedon-less reboot. That projects very existence begs the questions 'Why!?' and 'What the hell is wrong with Hollywood!?'
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

One of the worst examples of a remake that is too early (and completely unnecessary) is Death at a Funeral.

It was remade in an - shall we say - 'urban' way, and the original movie is an English film from 2007.

It even stars the same midget - Peter Dinklage.

Also "Let Me In" was a remake, but it was pretty faithful to the original, even though it was pretty much unnecessary.

I would like to see a Dune remake. Something well done this time. Epic. Lord of the Rings style.
Thanks everyone...

I'm trying to figure out why the hell they're wanting to remake Drop Dead Fred. I mean geez, the original was pretty much a flop both commercially and financially wasn't it? I know it's got its fans (my girlfriend loves it for example) but still. Just seems like a bad idea.

I'm afraid that if they did make one the irony of people accusing it of ripping off Avatar might be too much for me to bear :? .

Very sick of this myself in both movies and games.

Had no idea they were planning a new Escape From New York, haha wow. That and Robocop, Total Recall (supposedly starring Colin Farrell), etc, I NEVER want to see truly happen. Sure some of these and the ones listed are arguably bad sometimes, but they have charm... that charm cannot be captured again, so forget it. Stop wasting the funds and our time, and be creative with something new.

Next thing you know George Lucas will want to remake IV-VI!

I'm interested in Robocop if Aronofsky does it. Also want to see a new Turtles movie. I wouldn't mind a gremlins sequel, but I don't know why they'd remake/reboot it.

I would be interested in them making a new Escape movie, but I want to see another sequel, not a remake.

Also, I'm curious about Total Recall. The idea that it would be closer to the original PKD story makes it pretty attractive to me. It wouldn't be a remake so much as a revisiting of some similar themes. I'm also relatively hopeful at hearing that Kurt Wimmer is writing the remake.
