Is the Sega CD game Snatcher really worth the going rate?
Is the Sega CD game Snatcher really worth the going rate?
I've wanted a copy of Snatcher for some time now but the price tends to keep me away. Is this game REALLY worth the premium price (typically well in excess of $100) it is garnering nowadays?

it is in my opinion it is the best game on the SegaCD, its set up like the best of the serria quest games, it is by Hideo Kojima, maker of Metal Gear Solid. Snatcher includes concepts that were later used and expanded on in MGS. I personally consider Metal Gear Solid one of the top 5 or 10 video games ever made.Scooter wrote:I've wanted a copy of Snatcher for some time now but the price tends to keep me away. the truth is, you should just download the image, burn it to a CD, plop it into your CDX and give it a try. there is no encryption or copy protection on SegaCD disks.
if its not your cup of tea, no loss. If you like it, then go hunt down the real thing for your collection. and in all honesty, if you owned a complete original, it would be a bad idea to even take the disk off the shelf. I would still recommend playing a backup for protection of your original.

I was just gonna say the same thing... Not verbatim but y'know what I mean.Jubal wrote:it is in my opinion it is the best game on the SegaCD, its set up like the best of the serria quest games, it is by Hideo Kojima, maker of Metal Gear Solid. Agreed. This game is definitely worth your time to play, as it is wonderful and unique. After you play it, then decide whether or not it deserves a $100 slot in your permanent collection.
It's a shame that it has never been re-released in a more modern format (maybe like as a bonus on some Metal Gear Solid special edition disc) because it deserves to be played by a wider audience than it got at release.

"Oh, no, not in Utica, no. It's an Albany expression."

Then I shouldn't also be playing my original copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga either?Jubal wrote: and in all honesty, if you owned a complete original, it would be a bad idea to even take the disk off the shelf. I would still recommend playing a backup for protection of your original.
I've always played the originals, never even owned a copy or backup. How exactly can playing the originals be a bad thing, it's not like they can wear out. I've yet to scratch any game discs, DVDs, CDs or computer discs I own. Besides, even scrached discs can be repaired. I've purchased a number of used discs which wouldn't play which have subsequently been restored and now play like new.

don't get me wrong, you can use your originals as you please ;) and yes if all goes well, you will never have any problems, they shouldn't wear out from normal usage.Scooter wrote:Then I shouldn't also be playing my original copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga either? ;)

My fear would be that I would accidentally scratch it for whatever reason, got bump, tripped over an errant controller, segaCD motor seized, whatever. and then after it got scratched I take it in to be resurfaced and they make a mistake. I have had 2 disks ruined by the folks at my local game polisher/resurfacer. granted I take in more than the average gamer, but it only has to mess up once for your investment to be gone.
nothing worse than to see what a game polisher does to the data side of the disk.
I think the main reason people don't use backups of all their games is that you usually have to jump through alot of hoops to be able to, install a mod ship, swap methods, etc.
with the SegaCD there are no hoops. just burn the CD and play.
What is the best progam to rip and burn Sega CD games? I've heard Disk Juggler or Alcohol 120%, but I've never tried to do this before. And can you get a region switch for Mega Cd games and do the same. I don't want to scratch up my Lunar, Vay, or Shining Force CD's. And I'd love to try out some wacky Japanese Mega CD titles. I got an undergraound gamer invite and all and I guess I just don't "get" the whole process or using Bit Torrent. I'm too old school and It seems like a big pain. I agree with Scooter, I just like using the originals.
