Heck yeah, it's a great game. It plays in the same vein as the NES Castlevania games, so good gameplay with a decent challenge-level. Good graphics for NES, great music, and pretty good cutscenes for back then.

I hope you didn't hear it was a bad game from AVGN. The episode where he reviewed all the Frankenstein games in the 8-bit and 16-bit era? Don't take him too seriously.
