Well all I know is that every time I've ever looked on Amazon or Ebay every single PC is at least $1000 and most are $1200 or over. Maybe you guys know some magical trick about it that I've yet to learn for finding cheap and yet still good gaming PC's. If so you could stand to be less condescending and more helpful by just sharing your little secret.General_Norris wrote:Nobody pays 1200 dollars for an "average gaming PC". I never paid more than 500€ for any of me computers either.
In the end those who said that they need to upgrade their computers every years are simply misinformed and wrong.

Perhaps going to an actual computer retailer and not the world's biggest bookstore?MrEco wrote: Well all I know is that every time I've ever looked on Amazon or Ebay every single PC is at least $1000 and most are $1200 or over. Also AMD + ATI (well AMD bought them but they kept the name) is most of the time cheaper than Intel + nVidia.
EDIT
Ok I'm starting to see where a big problem is coming at. Your retailers only seem to sell prebuild PCs. Anyway, find a retailer who lets you pick parts and you can make a very cheap gaming PC.
EDIT 2
OMG these prices are laughable
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Alienware+- ... Id=1244511
I got a PC last year, at half the price, which is just as strong as this one, only I have 2 less gigs of ram (barely a 30$ difference) 500GB more HD space AND a better graphics card :S
Is there a cartel on computer prices in the states? This just isn't normal. It's like selling a Wii for 400$

Those are not good places to buy computers. Go to a local comptuer shop and avoid huge franchises, those overcharge and rely on the naïveté of their costumers. It's like McDonalds, as long as they are big they will have costumers, no matter how better food is somewhere else.MrEco wrote:Well all I know is that every time I've ever looked on Amazon or Ebay every single PC is at least $1000 and most are $1200 or over.
Any local shop will let you choose your own components. Pre-built tend to be poor choices as they will often have bad power supplies or motherboards since the average Joe doesn't care about those.
I'm not American so I don't know any sites to recommend you but shipping my entire computer to you and paying from it here would still be much cheaper than those PCs you mention.
When we were helping Frizz.Master to make his computer BananaXX used a site called "newegg.com". I checked and even if it's not the best site around building a computer there will cost you far less than one thousand dollars for sure.
If you want to we can take the computer ZeroAX mentioned and see how much big retailers rip off people, because seriously, it's an awful lot.
Sorry if I'm being condescending but it gets very tiring to hear the same things over and over again.

Re: console > PC
Gaming for me growing up meant Sega and Nintendo. So it depends on what you've been raised on, I personally would say console. Although consoles now are turning into PCs. I still treat my Xbox 360 like a Gamecube though, only use it for games. I don't know why but I've always preferred a controller to a mouse and keyboard too. I'm not a big FPS fan which tends to be the PC's main genre I hear the arguments for from mates (responsive controls, online mods etc). Stuff like Warcraft doesn't appeal to me either. But I do still play PC games, mainly strategy stuff like Worms or Football Manager, which granted, are shit on console.

£373.72 to be exact and it runs like a dream even with games such as Lost planet 2 and Crysis. Although i already had the monitors (terrible dell ones form years ago) it seemed to me that all the problems of PC gaming have kinda passed with time, and with the modding community helping me get into many great games such as Morrowind and Doom 2 i cant see what wrong worse about PC gaming. Sure its different but thats the charm of it.General_Norris wrote:Nobody pays 1200 dollars for an "average gaming PC". O and i'll get up some pictures of my new machine once i find the lead for my phone to connect to the pc.

First part is so true. Second part, newegg is by far the best place I know of in NA to purchase computer parts, their prices are a steal and shipping is almost negligible.General_Norris wrote:Those are not good places to buy computers. Bingo. That kills stone dead the 'PC gaming is expensive' bullshit. If you want advice on what parts to buy just post in the Personal Computers section and we'll give you some sound advice, like we gave to Frizz.Frizz.Meister wrote:£373.72 to be exact and it runs like a dream even with games such as Lost planet 2 and Crysis. Just to be contrary I actually prefer to play Battlefield Bad Company 2 on Xbox 360 than PC. I've got both, but for some reason I just can't get on with the PC version. Maybe it's my shitty old knackered mouse (Logitech MX510) or my lack of skill but I just don't feel as accurate on PC as I do on 360 for some reason. Also I like the level playing field the 360 gives you, it's not as dependant on your own PCs performance, feeling like your equipment let you down sucks. There's no getting around that. Plus I like just being able to jump in and out of a vehicle without having to switch controllers. As PhilipofMacedon can confirm I'm pretty fucking good at the 360 version now I've got used to aiming with sticks (which was a learning curve in itself, aided somewhat with the Kontrolfreak thumbstick extenders). So yeah. Certain games I prefer on different platforms depending on their strengths. I don't see a reason not to own a 360 and PC.
