The first 30 seconds or so are true, after that, it deteriorates into not being funny. I no longer play anything online with a mic. Guys just can't seem to handle themselves in a game when they discover a girl is playing with them. Ever see those videos of female avatars getting swarmed on PS Home? (Yes, you deserve whatever you get for using PS Home, but I digress.) That's why many of us girls who game a lot actually pretend to be guys.

It's just easier that way.

I've got no particular need to prove my 'femaleness' to a bunch of anonymous kids who are more interested in what colour panties I'm wearing than just playing the damn game. :|

Yea it is pretty terrible how online gaming has digressed from simply playing the game together. :(

Hmm, either CH or someone else has made the same joke in a video recently. Funny, but only because it is a sad that it is a parody of how so many people are crap to each other online and I've managed to avoid it for the most part myself. If I'd been on the receiving end of a lot of it I probably wouldn't find it as amusing. *sigh*

I've played both male and female avatars online, sometimes out of choice, sometimes not (Diablo, Borderlands) when a certain class is only available in a certain gender. Borderlands is the only game I've used voice chat on so most of the time I just played as a nice 'person' since it really doesn't matter. Thankfully I've managed to mostly play with people who were more interested in enjoying the game than playing the A/S/L or insult stupidity.

(EDIT: This link is NSFW) http://www.fatuglyorslutty.com - a website collecting some of the suave and debonair overtures made to the lady gamers out there. Real classy bunch of dudes out there, you know? It's actually kind of depressing, to be honest.

That reminded me of an article I read about online 'cross-dressing' a while back:

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/article ... ss-Dresser

It's essentially the exact opposite of your situation, a guy who deliberately plays feminine characters to take advantage of the loathsome way a lot of guys treat girls online. It's kind of ironic how the inane BS girl gamers deal with can be turned on its head.

That said though, I don't think I blame any of the gaming ladies for turning off their mics or not making a point of revealing their gender.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

So...what color are...I mean...

I never even thought about this kind of thing, the whole concept of online multiplayer just never appealed to me from the start. Especially co-op. I'm decent, but not enough to win every time or something, and the last thing I'd want to deal with is sore losers (or sore winners) that I don't even know.

That and online seems like it's mostly FPS's, and RPG's, two genres I couldn't care much less about.

I love that site. It really helped open my eyes to how much it can suck to play games when you're a woman. I also love that it provides some accountability to these assholes that think their messages are private.

My ex-girlfriend once played WoW on her brother's account for some time. The moment she spoke on the mic, the quest the group was completing stopped and was not picked up again for the rest of the night.

Yeah, that's the one I was thinking about.

So sad and pathetic. How are some of the repeat offenders on there not being booted from live and whatnot?

This video reminds of another that college humor did, pretty much the same thing. I dont remember what the video was called though. About a bunch of xbot chicks saying something like "balls or gtfo". Anyone know what I'm referring to? please post a link as it's related to this thread.
