This is also my bad habit I keep getting side tracked into retrogames then the new ones get left on the shelf to gather dust.

I think the last console I fully played without worrying about the old consoles was the Dreamcast and then things got mixed up when the PS2 / Gamecube and Xbox came out as no console had a port of every game and funnily enough the same is true today.

For Nintendo games you had to go to the Gamecube with some Sega games also exclusive to the console.
The Xbox also had some exclusive games to play such as Dead or Alive 3 which I became a fan of through playing Dead or alive 1 in Arcades / Saturn and then really playing it to death on the Dreamcast (Dead or alive 2)
Then the PS2 had it's own fair share of console exclusives such as Virtua Fighter 4, Ridge Racer and Tekken etc.

I guess the PS2 was the best console to own last gen if you only had to choose one but since then I've ended up buying so many games over so many consoles with increasingly less time to play them.

I've had to come to a realization to stop dwelling on the past and stick to the newer consoles and stop buying multiple of the same game on different consoles and only buy games for the one console mainly and the odd one or two exclusive for the other.

This way keep down clutter and can concentrate instead of being overwhelmed by choice.
The other thing I've decided to do is to separate games into rental and buys as not every game is worth buying despite so there being so many games being at least a play doesn't mean every game should be bought and deserve a place in my collection.

In the old days I did this naturally because of finances so only the best were in my personal collection which amounted to less clutter and more playtime through different games without worrying about my backlog of games that I should play.

I tend to go in at a full sprint, guns blazing, in most games, regardless of whether it's appropriate or not. This is really bad for games that require you stop and time jumps with moving obstacles, and it makes stealth games particularly challenging.

I second that one! Drives me nuts! Also, I tend to get really angry when I can't beat certain areas and will yell at my TV about how the game is somehow "cheating" to win. It's completely ridiculous and I always feel stupid within the hour, but then I'll be on the game the very next day doing the same exact thing.

I'm pretty much the opposite of this. I'll play anything 'stealthy' unless it's impossible to do so.

I play 8 games at a time. 1-2 of them get beaten fast, 2 take me a couple of months, 2 take me a year and 2-3 are dropped never completed and sold/traded/given away.

Nowadays, pretty much never playing anything I've finished.

This is generally true for me too, though I would add that I usually will look for the most creative or fun way to play through any game. This often makes parts of a game very frustrating for me because I'm trying to doing something MY way rather than taking the obvious, simple and direct approach. This is just one of my quirks. I don't like doing things the bland way. It's never enough for me to just get it done, I like to make it look good. Sometimes that means, as 7k said, doing things the stealthy way rather than using brute force.

On a side note, I'm a bit curious about the game Bulletstorm even though I don't usually like shooters simply because it seems to cater to a gamer like me with its skill shot system that encourages gamers to get really creative with their kills

*sigh*

You can add me as another person who suffers from the same problem.

For the longest time I had the habit of holding down the "B" button on NES and SNES games because I was so used to running everywhere on Super Mario Bros. games. No longer, though.

I also tended to forget to save a lot when I'd play a game a whole lot then die. I did this a lot with King's Field 1 & 2 and Morrowind. But I've since learned my lesson.

This was exactly how I played Halo 2 with friends in college. They described my playing style as "aggressive" and they usually hid behind a corner and killed me with the shotgun because I'd rarely take things slowly.
