I recently got ATT Uverse and the new router's security is WPA2, but it looks as if the adapter on my Windows XP Mame Cab is only accepts WEP. I have the key and configured four other computers to work with it, but they are all newer...
Any ideas of a work around this without getting new adapter?
I already tried hooking my old TP-Link wireless router up via the new router's Ethernet port but that didn't work.
Any ideas would be awesome.
Thanks.

Re: Wireless Internet
- See if there is a firmware update for you card.
- You could drop your router back to WEP, however it is not secure and very easy to break.
- Use another computer close by to make a wireless bridge and hook it up via Ethernet, however, you might as well just hook it up via ethernet to start with.
Generally speaking if your node does not support WPA2 and there is no firmware update available to do so, there is nothing you can do outside of dropping back to WEP.

Re: Wireless Internet
If the card is old enough to only be WEP, then I'd say just go buy a cheap new card for $20 or less. Don't sacrifice the security of WPA2 as WEP is essentially useless.

Re: Wireless Internet
I have a second router that I turn on when I need WEP (e.g Nintendo DS wifi) which is hooked to my primary router that uses WPA2. I tell my kids to turn it off when they're done with it but they never do.
I followed this FAQ

I agree with Hobie's advice to get a new card. You can get a decent one for $20 or less.

I will also highly recommend you don't use WEP. There's an eHow on how to break it.
Re: Wireless Internet
Ditto to what others above are saying, WEP is pretty outdated now.

SpaceBooger just a quick question, What SP is your MAME XP machine running (WPA was only supported in SP2 / SP1 (Witch a hotfix installed).

I just found an old adapter that runs WPA so all should be good now. Thanks for all the input.
