Indeed. I have a randomly acquired Zelda gold cart that still holds saves just fine with its original battery, as does my Super Metroid bought launch week.Ziggy587 wrote:I don't see it as that big of deal. Yes, the batteries will die at some point, but it's not much to worry about as far as PLAYING the games go. All of my NES & SNES carts hold saves just fine for me.Hobie-wan wrote:Indeed. Funny enough, I prefer San Andreas. I enjoy the look and feel of Vice City, but San Andreas really captured that early 90s feel and gave me an incredibly large world to roam around in. Doing drive-bys on a riding lawnmower is a lot of fun, and I've spent hours just wandering the world on a bicycle. I considered Vice City quite good, but like Gamerforlife mentioned, I felt SA polished what Vice City put forth. Admittedly I've hardly played GTA 3, so I can't say I had it as a background for Vice City. The port of Vice City Stories was enjoyable, though I've had a hard time getting into the port of Liberty City Stories.dsheinem wrote:As do I, but I just spent a lot more time playing Vice City that GTA3 or GTA:SA, and consider it easily the best of the GTA3 "trilogy." I would put Vice City in that hypothetical top 50 list. I wouldn't put GTA3 there.Ziggy587 wrote: It's funny that you said you associate Vice City with the PS2 though, because I actually associate GTA3 with the PS2.
There are some great games on the console though that genuinely surprised me when I first played them. For instance, I was quite impressed by The Punisher and had a load of fun playing through each level several times to get all the unlockables and try out all the torture methods. Silent Hill 2 and 3, Fatal Frame, Soul Calibur 2, Mark of Kri, Virtua Fighter 4, the Dynasty Warriors series, Onimusha: Warlords, Echo Night: Beyond, Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven, they're all games I've played through and had loads of fun doing so. I even look fondly on the games that got me into the PS2, such as Zone of the Enders (a friend rushed through and beat it so we could play multiplayer matches) and DOA2: Hardcore.
Yeah, the PS2 has served me well, and each genre I enjoy has a list of standout titles and then solid mid-level games for me to track down.

Maybe because you know the Vice City layout, but don't know Liberty City from not playing GTA3 much? Anyways, I have both. I started to play Liberty City Stories, haven't touched Vice yet. The graphics in Liberty are blah. I thought I was spoiled from playing GTA4, but then I noticed that the graphics are indeed poorer than the original PS2 GTA games. Liberty City Stories was a PSP port, so that explains why it doesn't look as nice. Vice City Stories was also a PSP port, but I'm hoping since it came out after, it might look a little better.Ack wrote:The port of Vice City Stories was enjoyable, though I've had a hard time getting into the port of Liberty City Stories.
That being said, it's great that the PS2 is still getting new games, but I've heard that these PSP ports to PS2 are pretty lame. The GTA games can be fun even if the graphics are as polished, that's not what makes those games fun. But I was looking at the reviews on Amazon for Jak and Dexter: The Lost Frontier, and they're consistently bad.

More love for the PS2 here!
I still haven't moved on to the new consoles (360, PS3, Wii) because I just keeping buying games on the cheap for my PS2 and I'm happy with that (well, that and my laptop and GameCube). There is amazing diversity in the PS2 library and diversity is what I most care about, so this is clearly the console for me.
As for the Grand Theft Auto debate, I will also add that I think San Andreas was the best of the bunch. I'm not a big fan of 80s music and style though, so Vice City never quite hit me right. The original GTA III is the only one I have played from start to finish though. Largely that's just because it was first, and also because San Andreas has so much fun stuff to do that I never cared about the main quests. Like Ack, I love my BMX. I would do jumps, drive bys, and tricks. I just loved that damn little bike. I also like the camera in San Andreas and spent a lot of time photographing sunsets and dead hookers.
Ahhh.... that's fucked up, isn't it?

totally how I feel. Diversity is what made me a huge fan of the GB line. You had 3 libraries (GB, GBC and GBA) to pick from -- literally thousands of games in every genre. And it's the same reason I love my PS2. Truth be told, I probably play more PS1 games than PS2, but still when you combine those libraries, and take into account imports -- that's just a lot of great games to explore. Every genre is present. It's really something.J T wrote:There is amazing diversity in the PS2 library and diversity is what I most care about,

The PS2 is still my favorite system to collect for. I think I'm nearing 120 games right now. I probably would have had over 150 but I've sold a bunch on Craigslist. Mostly sports titles
It really does have the greatest and most diverse game library though - every genre was covered pretty well

Except for FPS games. Did just fine without very many of them though.Weekend_Warrior wrote:It really does have the greatest and most diverse game library though - every genre was covered pretty well

It's not even the fact that it had all of the awesome games but that it still is considered in this gaming generation, not to mention the fact that it can play every game that came out for it's predecessor. With the limitless variety and all of the neat little things that can be done to the system, that right there built the PS2 a nice cushioned seat in the Valhalla of gaming giants.
Why did Kevin Flynn blare Journey so loud in his arcade? Was he trying to hear it from the grid?
