Nintendo 64 stuff. help me out?

Post by mikferg »

hi,

here's a problem i would like someone to solve for me.

I have TWO Nintendo 64's. I can't get either of them to work. one has been tampered with ( by me and a friend, hoping to fix it), the other hasn't. They used to work, but i don't know what happened, the slowly stopped working, and some games wouldn't work in them, some games wouldn't even FIT in one of them, it ended up in the last stages before what i assume to be, their death, that only Mario Kart was registering with them.

Anyway, i would love to still have them, if anyone has any idea how i could get them to work, but if they are just dead, i would like to know if anyone has any idea how much i should sell all my games for... someone who actually knows, and isn't trying to jip me out of money- obviously.

I have about 30 games.

some of which were mentioned on this site as 'rare gems'.
maybe i should keep them for longer, increase the value maybe, i don't know how collectable they are,
i need someone honest to help me out.

all of them are obviously used, and are cartridges only, i think i have the packaging for a couple.
i also have a special carry case with foam cut especially to fit the system and controllers, as well as the original box, controllers and other bits and pieces.

if someone knows about this stuff, i would love to talk to you, if someone is interested in buying this stuff off me, i'd also be happy to talk, but i will be getting advice from a few sources before i decide on what to do or how much to sell for.

i'm on myspace, which is probably the easiest way to contact me, because i hardly ever check my email.
but you can do it through this site as well if you want.
message me on myspace, because i won't add people i don't know.

thanks guys/
cheers,

Mikaela.

This may sound kinda stupid , but have you tried cleaning the contacts? Sorry if that sounds condescending . I don't mean for it too. Just trying to eliminate the obvious first.

Nice to see a fellow Aussie on here :)

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

Yeah, what he said. i would particularly check to make sure that the cartridge's contacts are clean since you mentioned that games quit working while a few still did...that sounds like dirty game carts. Clean with alcohol on a cotton swab. If that doesn't work, check all of your connections - power/av/cart in system. Try the games in another system.

don't do alcohol, it's outdated, use windex. alcohol dries everything up too fast.

and windex leaves residue, either will work, it all about cleaning technique.

I made a video with the technic I use to clean the contacts on my N64 stuff. It works about 99% of the time.

I have found alcohol to be the best for me, but I agree that the technic is the most important part.

Nice video. Mind if I use that in the future for a post?

Thanks,
i'm going to give that a go, definately.

But the actual system isn't registering with the tv. which makes me think it's the connection. but i'll check it out anyway. take it to a gaming store or something.

Thanks everyone for your help/advice. !!

i really appreciate it. :)
