Nintendo's marketing
Nintendo's marketing
If anyone has any insight into why Nintendo continues to be in the minds of more gamers over the last 25ish years, I'd appreciate it. Or that is my observation anyhow.

Most people were introduced to the Nes and that influenced them. People are still fond of their 'Nintendo' and they still treasure it in their hearts as part of their childhood, it made them who they are.

Are you asking why Nintendo has sold the most this gen? Cause in your original post you say something about 25 years, but the previous 2 gens Nintendo was hardly the name everyone thought of when they heard the words video game.

Playstation and? Certainly not Sega, right? I mean they are arguably better quality games, but not marketing-wise I wouldn't think.

Re: Nintendo's marketing
I don't know what kind of insight you're looking for but for each generation I bought the Nintendo console first. I did this mainly because I knew I had to play Mario and Zelda games and because of the price points. I eventually bought the other consoles later when the prices came down. I also have a young son who plays games and didn't want him playing Mature games at a young age. He's 14 now and just started playing those types of games when he got a 360 for his birthday last year.
I remember after the Wii and PS3 launches I was in Gamestop and a Mother was badgering the employee about finding a game her son could play on his new PS3 that wasn't rated mature. So, maybe the insight is "I know I can trust that a Nintendo console will have quality games that all types of gamers are familiar with and can play without worry."

Two generations, Ps1 and Ps2 dominated the last two generations.
Also it's of note that vgcharts is notorious for being inaccurate.
Re: Nintendo's marketing
Nintendo was once the best. Their games defined many a childhood. That, and, even though nintendo has spent the past ten years or so saying a big screw you to the real gamers, they still put out enough good stuff that they cannot be completely written off. The wii is an awful platform for the hardcore market, just abysmal, but we still get zelda and smash brothers out of it.
Systems: Atari 7800, NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, Saturn, Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360, Game Boy Pocket (2), Game Boy Color, GBA SP (2), DS
