Loose Controller Port on TG-16

Post by BurningDoom »

Has anyone else experienced this? Mine has a loose port, I think. I suppose it could be the controller itself, however none of the pins look out of place or anything. The controller simply falls out of the port, VERY easily. However, as long as it does stay in place it works. You can imagine how frustrating it is to sit right next to the console to ensure little tugging on the wires, and then not being able to move at a crucial moment in the game because it did fall out somehow.

I was wondering if there was any way to fix this? Because I'm not gonna invest in another TG-16, but still would hate to lose the one I have.

BTW, I have Googled the problem. I mostly come-up with topics about loose TG-16 consoles or loose TG-16 games and haven't found a decent result. So help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Do you mean the din plug unplugging from the console? A pic of the port would help.

Not an idea solution, but you can VERY SLIGHTLY egg shape the metal tube with pliers for a more snug fit. Be careful! Too much crush could damage the plug, or the port in the console when inserting.

Indeed, do you mean the plug as in CRT's example comes out of the system, or is the shiny metal bit coming off the end of the cord and staying in the console? If the latter I have 3 controllers all with this problem. The first one came with the TG-16 I got. It will stay put except that the console puts a death grip on it. I made some extension cables since they controllers need them anyway and so I just leave the extension plugged into that one and it is fine. The other two I got from Racketeers and I have bought new DIN plugs to attach on the end when I get around to it.

I mean the metal end of the controller where it plugs into the system falls out of the port itself very easily.

Ok, then I'd say try CRT's suggestion. Just only squeeze it a little bit, then test, then maybe a little more. Don't go all Hulk on it so you end up with the other problem.

I'm wary to do it. But I guess I've got nothing to lose since it's working like crap anyways. I'll give it a shot.
