Is there any emulator that can emulate Gimmick! perfectly?

It seems the emulators I've tried have all failed to emulate Gimmick! (famicom version, not the meh euro version) properly.

Why oh why did my brother throw out my famiclone copy of Gimmick! I hear even those are rare now!

I.. I can't believe I haven't! I have it right there on my computer but must have totally forgotten about it. Anyway, have tried it and it works. It's not 100% perfect, but I guess that's emulation for you. Thanks for the suggestion, cyborc!

Gimmick did in fact have a custom-made Sunsoft mapper. Only two games used it as far as I can recall.

Now if only Gimmick! could work on FCEU-GX on the Gamecube...

Well I finally got my old chipped PSone fixed and decided to try out Sunsoft Memorial Vol 6 like you guys suggested and found an ISO to download. I wasn't expecting much because of the lack of information on the internet about it and immediately assumed that this would be a lacklustre quick buck port.

And....

I am blown away. This. Is. A. Perfect. Port. It's better than perfect. It's even better than the Famicom version because the sprites don't flicker like mad when things get heavy.

What makes this even better for me personally, is now I realise my pirated famiclone cart lacked the special Sunsoft sound chip because this sounds so. much. better. As silly as this may sound, I always assumed my pirate cart had the sound chip for some reason, if not how would it be possible to pirate it? Goes to show how little I know, I suppose... The music was awesome even without the missing instruments anyway.

The only problem I find with the Memorial Series version is that you can't customize the controls. A is hardmapped to Circle and B to X. Considering that Circle is jump and X is shoot, you either need to have a huge thumb or are required to do a hand-cramping position to play this game properly. Not cool. Still, I suppose I can learn to live with it.

Anyway, thanks for telling me about Sunsoft Memorial Series Vol. 6. It seems my new mission in life now is to hunt down a legit copy. I hear it's not bank breaking as getting the Famicom version. Is that true?

I think I got the last one from NCS. Good luck finding it. Even if it's not worth that much, it seems like it's very hard to find.

Yeah, I checked that link before. (You posted it already remember! ). I also set a notifier on Playasia to tell me when a new or preowned copy is available.

I don't think you can find it new anymore unless you go to Japan. I have a diplomat friend who's constantly travelling, next time he's in japan I might just ask him to keep an eye out for it.

Failing that, I guess there's ebay or yahoo auctions japan or something. Not in a hurry to find it... after all, the fun is in the search.
