Media about videogames and their history

Post by Erik_Twice »

While there are several movies and books on the subject I feel there's not really much information about them around and I can barely name a few of them. In this thread we discuss works that talk about or concern videogames.

For example, lately I have seen a couple of books mentioned, one is "Masters of Doom", a book that narrates the history of Id, creators of Wolfestein 3D and Quake. Seems interesting but I wonder if someone here has read about it. The book is cheap so it may be a worth read, if you think it's a worthwile book, say so!

Similar comments on Arcade Mania would be also appreaciated.

Concerning movies, I have seen two of them: The King of Kong, about the World Record attemps at Donkey Kong by two expert players, and Chasing Ghosts: Beyond the Arcade about the Golden Age of Arcade Games and the history of Twin Galaxies.

I have mixed feelings about The King of Kong. While it's a fun film and I, as a gamer, like it it's undeniable that the story presented contains blatant misrepresentations, twisted facts and mistakes about both certain players and Twin Galaxies as a whole. I don't know if I should the filmakers by buying the movie, as I don't like that I support those lies with my money.

On the other hand, Chasing Ghosts may not be as fun but it's very informative. However I don't know where can I order the DVD.

Sorry for the horrible writting, I'm half-sleeping as I write.
