Here you say it yourself. Pawn shops take advantage of people.

But somehow you're ok with it when cookie monster does exactly that.

So cookie monster taking advantage of someone is ok.

aaron wrote:they get away with this because they know desperate people (or criminals) will bring in goods when they really need the money (or when they need to unload something they just stole).

A lot of assumptions here, but yeah, one of the possibilities is someone desperate who really needs the money.

So yeah, let's take advantage of that!... If I don't do it, someone else will. Right?...

aaron wrote:why the hell would it be any better to buy it from a pawn shop, when they ripped off the same type of kid that you're claiming was "taken advantage of" in the first place?most pawn shops also do payday loans/predatory lending/etc. this is why i don't go to pawn shops and mainly stick to thrift stores (where items were donated) or flea markets/garage sales (where people set their own prices).
aaron wrote:I think that's dumb. That's like saying I shouldn't buy anything from a garage sale for a good price because I might take advantage of some kid who didn't know any better.

So there is a difference between pawn shops and garage sales afteral?... Make up your mind.

Again, you give the impression not to like the way pawn shops operate.

Yet you have no problem with it when cookie monster does exactly the same thing.

aaron wrote:i seriously can't comprehend why you think it is "disgusting" that cookie monster (who is a girl, if i remember correctly, btw) got a good deal from someone who was about to unload it for pennies anyway. i'm sure the kid in the situation (however old) was happy with it or else they would have told her to go fuck herself and not taken the $20.

i don't know why i'm so irritated by this.

Oh, cookie monser is a girl. I didn't know. That changes everything...

You're grasping at straws. She asked the kid/guy how much he wanted for it and he named his price, not her. That is the major difference and thus negates your whole "taking advantage of someone" platform. She didn't haggle, she didn't offer, she asked. That's no different than buying something priced at a flea market or a garage sale. Can you honestly say that if you were in the same situation you would have said "oh no, please, this stuff is at least worth four times that," and pulled out a hundred bucks?

To me that kind of negates the purpose of this entire thread.

I call a lot of people 'kids', often college age people who are actually older than me.

well i am 30 something so if you look under 25 i consider you a kid considering the person looked early 20's i would never rip off a child i have given children games that didn't have them and yes i am a female this is what happened i bought a ds game and the other clerk told this kid he did not take stuff that old i walked outside and the guy said ma'am would you be intrested in my game stuff i asked what he had he told me i did not know what games or how much the system cost cause i did not have one i asked if it worked and was told yes i asked him what he wanted for it and he said 20.00 so i took a chance and bought it so some ppl think i am a asshole for getting it i really don't give a rats furry ass

@cookie monster: You did nothing wrong. The guy asked for 20 and got what he wanted. It might be different if you were the one to suggest that price first. Also, you did take a risk and bought untested things.
I would have done the same.

I totally ripped off a kid once. My cousin's wife gave me a copy of Halo 3 her 11 year old son had received as a gift, telling me she thought the game was too violent for him. He gave me the evil eye when I was obviously glad to acquire a free game... I had no qualms about it, the little shit needs to play outside more anyways.

That was worth it for just the cables.

Amazon
PS2 Pop Cap Hits 2 - $9.99
http://www.amazon.com/Popcap-Greatest-H ... B0019SRE3I
Amazon shipped this free. I had to get this one, already bought PS2 Pop Cap Hits 1. Zuma is well known as a Cell Phone game, but Heavy Weapon the draw for me, a Twin Stick game! Plays like C64 Paratrooper and also reminds me of Neo Geo Metal Slug. Left stick moves the tank, right stick rotates the turret and fires. As for Zuma, it is easier to aim with the stick vs a cell phone touch screen or a computer mouse.

BookOff
PS2 White Controller - $5.00
Its not a PS1 but a PS2 controller. Not rare, but uncommon to get a PS2 version in white. Model number SCPH 10010, I wonder if this is an import?

BookOff
Winged Migration DVD - $5.00
A captivating documentary, I reviewed this here.

My favorite Retro Store

I love Bookoff! This Japanese owned franchise sells used games in pristine condition, complete with original cases, covers and manuals. All the games and DVD movies are protected by a clear easy to open plastic envelope, the small easy to remove price tag is on the envelope.
