What would you like to know about the Segagaga Translation?

Post by Original_Name »

Hello there, Racketeers, Segaphiles, and all those who lie in the middle of that Venn Diagram (EDIT :P )! I've lined up an interview with James Howell, the head of Deltahead's Segagaga Translation Project, so he can answer any questions you guys might have about this great little piece of Sega and Dreamcast history and the process of localizing the highly-Japanese game for an English-speaking audience. For those uninitiated, here's a handful of links to familiarize yourself with Segagaga:

http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2006/09/gam ... s_ja_1.php
And above all (spoiler!!)...

So everyone, feel free to pile on the questions, and we'll all do our best to whittle down to the best and most effective ones to use for the interview (to be conducted by e-mail, by the way)! I'll be thinking of some, and run 'em by you guys in the near future. I figure I'll give everyone a few days to decide on the best questions before I send off the email.

Also, this is now a pan-forumal event! I'll be incorporating questions from these guys into the interview as well (not that you guys really had to know that, but it helps me to be more organized if I throw the link here, which I'm doing nnnnnnnnnnnnn-

I played this game and thought it was tedious continual read dialog and pokemon battle. Of course didn't help not reading Japanese. Interesting, I didn't know there is a SHUMP in the game. Are there other types of hidden games?

I think the main question is how far and when will the complete translation be done?

Your older post, Anthony may have some ideas too:

AWESOME!

1. I'd also really like to know what time frame they expect to finish in. (ie. how many people are spending how much time working on it?)

2. What platforms the patched game will be playable on. (Emulator or actual hardware..or Both?)

Thanks very much!

Ask him why he is wasting time doing interviews when the translation is not finished

I would guess, but is the translation of the first or second version of the game?

I seem to remember some spoof box arts for games your in game studios developed. Are they going to translate and replace the text on those, or any other of the items with Japanese characters for that matter?

I'm sure I'll think of more. In the middle of making vegan quesadillas though.

Anyways, no questions from me, but looking forward to reading the interview!

It is actually a Venn diagram drawn by Vin Diesel.
Unsurprisingly, the best way to vi(n)sualize this is by drawing a Venn diagram where one of the circles has "Venn Diagram" written in it, the other has "Vin Diesel" written on it, and the intersection has (naturally) "Vin Diagram".

Bonus points if that diagram is drawn by Vin Diesel itself, of course.

Now you are left to wonder if the initials being VD on all of those is just a harmless coincidence... Or is it not?

1. are they taking so long in order to make it super awesome? that i can understand.

2. can/will things they learned working on the dreamcast be used to help other dreamcast translators?

3. finally, are there any other dreamcast games they'd personally like to see translated? Napple Tale, Roomania #203, Rent a Hero, Tokyo Bus Guide, Hundred Swords and Black/Matrix come to mind. maybe obscure stuff like Weakness Hero Torauman.

thanks!
