Total: 10
I normally only update every 2 or 3 games, but I was concerned about losing my last post in the tide of newer updates.
Probotector 2 - AKA Probotector Alien Rebels AKA Contra 3 The Alien Wars on Game Boy was pretty decent - I was surprised by how much they managed to mimic its bigger brother despite being on a tiny little game boy cartridge. Obviously there are some major differences though - the top down levels are a little harder to control, and no mode 7 means no stomach churning spinning around. The level on the speederbike thing is absent, the boss on the sandy level has been changed, and only half of the last level made it in. The game is also notably easier. Finally, the spread shot SUCKS in this one - the game boy cant handle so many shots on screen, so it doesnt fire very rapidly - and yet its hasnt been powered up, meaning its very weak. The key to this one seems to be to find and keep the flamethrower, which is very powerful, rapid fire (due to always being present) and longer range than on the SNES version due to a smaller screen.
Overall a fun little diversion. If i found another game boy contra/probotector game for cheap like I did with this one (£1.50 at a car boot sale) than I'd definetely pick it up. At the same time, I'm hardly going to scour eBay to make sure I can play them all. :p
Next up: Kirby's Dreamland 3 (VC), A Boy and His Blob(Wii), Fire Emblem 6(GBA), Pokemon Black/White (DS).
Hopefully I won't be updating with just one game again next time XD

i have been playing sol-feace, or sol-feces according to AVGN, but have been getting frustrated with it. i felt i needed a change of pace. phelios was definitely a welcomed change of pace; no slow down, no sprite flickering, and it is pretty damn easy. one thing i like about shmups are the powerups. unforunately, they are pretty much nonexistence in phelios. three or so times throughout the game you can get up weapon powerup, but it is limited to a time frame you can use it. the boss battles are easy peasy lemon squeezy.
probably not a good shmup for the ballers on this site, but good for the shmup noob like myself.

King of Fighters '97...not impressed. I think maybe the Orochi Saga collection for the Wii was not coded correctly as half the time there was no back ground music. Just grunts and celery chopping sounds. The game felt a little too long, unbalanced, and (I never thought I would say this about a KoF game) a little too easy. Probably will not marathon this one.
Street Fighter II Turbo. This was the SNES game that I cut my teeth on back in the day. I remember it being MUCH harder than what I just went through.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Just curious - how are you counting the fighting games as beaten? 1cc runs?
Re: Games Beaten : 2011
Once I beat the game with 3 characters (or sets of characters as in KoF) on default difficulty, I consider the fighting games beaten. It'd be a little too easy to just get to the credits and call it a day.

so....as many credits per run as needed with each character? Personally, I try to only count 1cc runs at first, but some games I give myself $1 worth of credits if they are brutally hard.
Re: Games Beaten : 2011
1 credit runs for anything capcom. As many as I want for some of the earlier KoF's. When I do my KoF '94 run here in a few days, you'd better believe I will have a pile of virtual quarters next to me.
