My new copy of the Orochi Saga for the Wii arrived today. This version of KoF 98 is as close to arcade perfect and true as they get. It is a VERY different game from the DC port, as apparent from the very first battle on default difficulty. Of course, the lack of 3D graphics in the back ground also serves as a great reminder that this is a Neo Geo game and not an overworked dreamcast port.
Also, some of the move sets are different. Kyo in the KoF 99 DM has a move set more akin to the KoF 97 while in this version he seems to sport an amalgamation of his 94 and 97 movesets. Weird.

01/16: Gabriel Knight 2: The Beast Within (PC)
02/16: Sanitarium (PC)
I've been working on Sanitarium for awhile, slowly chipping away at it. It's a very slow moving game. It has been frustrating for that reason. Your character just walks at a snail's pace, so it takes forever to do anything. The puzzles are mostly good in the game, but some are ridiculous and I used a walkthrough many times. If you're stuck on a puzzle and it takes your character 10 minutest to walk across the room, it's easy to give up and crack open the walkthrough.
So, the gameplay wasn't that great, but I love the story. It's one of the better videogame adventure stories I have experienced. I love the whole concept of playing through mental worlds where you are never quite sure what is reality and what is a dream and you're trying to piece together what you can from his subconscious to unsolve the mystery of the main plot. It's great. Even though I thought the gameplay was terrible, it was still a wortwhile game just for the story.

Try Harvester. It's pretty gonzo in it's rather fucked-up cast and hyperviolence. Just don't forget to leave the paper out for Jimmy or he'll shoot you in the face.J T wrote:01/16: Gabriel Knight 2: The Beast Within (PC)

Of all the classic KoF's, '96 remains my favorite. It maintains a simplicity that was lost in the 98 edition and beyond, introduces some great new characters (many who are lost to the series after this edition) and has a much more involved storyline than the usual KoF, encouraging the player to go back and beat the game with as many proper teams as they can.
Also it was great to fight a last boss who was NOT some invincible form of Rugal Bernstein.

Look in the dictionary for the words 'arbitrary', 'unfair', 'joykill' and 'Godless Mother Fucker' and you will see a small black and white picture of the Megaman X7 cover.SwooshBear wrote:I didn't realize it was that bad. A neat little game. It's fairly easy, but it had excellent controls (though I didn't like the control scheme of A = spacebar instead of X) and was a sort of "pick-up-and-play" platformer, something you don't see often.
