I also noticed this last week when I went to preorder my YS I&II
Re: Gamestop is evil
Gamestop is certainly evil and of course we would never shop there because we love video games. Unfortunately there are many more uninformed gamers out there who do shop at Gamestop and they are the ones buying the disc only PS2 games and supporting the destruction of the case/manual.
These customers have no idea that Gamestop was the one who destroyed the cases. Maybe they think these games were traded in to the store as loose discs to begin with. If more people can learn that Gamestop is destroying game cases and manuals, we would have a better chance of stopping this.
If you shop at Gamestop, you are either ignorant (don't know about the case & manual destruction) or just don't care about video games enough for it to bother you.
Fuck you, Gamestop. The video game industry is better off without you.

Re: Gamestop is evil
Would any one be interested in contributing to a petition? I am suggesting that we create a petition to send to GameStop, requesting that they stop throwing away game cases and manuals.
Re: Gamestop is evil
As Mod Man has stated before, they're going to keep throwing out cases for economic reasons. If you want to protest then protest with your dollars and stop shopping there, like I have.

Re: Gamestop is evil
I'm well aware of what Mod Man said. What I said is that if they don't have the room in the stores for the cases then they shouldn't except the trade ins. Mod Man said that it's the company's policy not to refuse any trade ins. So they're gonna keep accepting more and more games, which means they're gonna keep throwing away more and more cases and manuals. They have no reason to stop doing this.
Boycotting is great, but alone, it doesn't mean a damn thing. You or me alone deciding that we're gonna stop shopping there doesn't mean anything to a big company like GameStop. That is, unless they know about it. That is why a petition is equally as important as boycotting. I just think that in this case, actions will NOT speak louder than words. But it has to be done right.
I am suggesting a petition with the idea that each participant can explain (to a certain extent) how they feel about this particular policy/action and, if they wish, state that they refuse to shop at GameStop. "I feel very strongly against GameStop's policy to throw away PS2 game cases and manuals. I choose not to shop at GameStop until these actions are stopped." Something to that extent, in your own words.
If enough people say they'll participate, I think we (or me - I don't care - I'll get the ball rolling if no one else wants to) should first create a thread explaining our goal and how to correctly phrase an entry to the petition. We could all work on what we want the petition's message to say.
Just an idea...

It won't do anything, most petitions don't. Gamestop makes too much money to bow down to the whims of a bunch of people who probably don't shop at their stores anyhow.

Hit them in the Sales Receipt Survey. There is an add your comments section.Ziggy587 wrote:Would any one be interested in contributing to a petition? I am suggesting that we create a petition to send to GameStop, requesting that they stop throwing away game cases and manuals.
Weird thing is, that same Gamestop had a good selection of complete Gamecube games. Only a matter of time. Maybe in six months all the last generation systems might get marked down and tossed?
EDIT
I just bought a couple $9.99 games complete. Luckily the employee didn't get his manual tossing paws on these yet. I am going to get my shopping while I can, Gamestop still has pretty good prices on used stuff.
I submitted my copy and paste complaint from my previous Reply through the Gamestop sales receipt survey. I'll gladly comment and digital sign your petition Ziggy.

How does the Mod/Admin feel if we also attach this Gamestop is Evil thread link to the petition? 35 pages worth does have some impact.

If you guys do end up creating a petition, I will happily sign it and explain my thoughts in it.

Re: Gamestop is evil
My Gamestop doesn't have anywhere near that many PC games. They just have a little rolling shelf, and generally have 20 or less games to choose from. Needless to say, I do most of my PC game shopping at Walmart and Bestbuy.CRTGAMER wrote:

GameStop knows that there are a lot of people that hate them, just as Wal-Mart, Microsoft, or any other company that has a near monopoly on their sector of industry does.
Petitioning won't change anything - and really, neither will choosing not to shop there. The fact is, there are more people getting into gaming now than possibly ever, and most of these people are the type that throw away their CD & DVD cases and insert the music and movies into those horrible 'Disc Wallets/Books' that scratch the hell out of everything they touch. For every one of us who decides not to buy these games in sleeves, there are 3 others out there that say "Oh hey! I only have to throw the sleeve away. Saves me some space in the trash bin."
Truth of the matter is, until Wal-Mart, Best Buy and the rest of GameStop's competition have both midnight launches and carry special editions, I still have to shop at GameStop if I wanna get my special edition as soon as I can. That's pretty much the only reason I shop at GameStop anymore, honestly - Marvel vs Capcom 3 Special Edition and LittleBigPlanet 2 Special Edition were the only two games I've bought from GameStop at all in the past few months.
