What are your favorite retro gaming video reviews?

Post by Gnashvar »

I'm wondering what retro gaming video reviews are popular. I usually watch AVGN, Irate Gamer and Classic Game Rooom. I also like the retrospectives made by Gametrailers.
Thanks everyone...

i def am over AVGN and irate gamer. as a matter of fact i am really over any retro reviewer.

BUT, i will say that happy console gamer is actually pretty cool. he doesn't try to be funny, he doesn't try to be cool, he just talks about gaming shit he likes. and it also has good production value.
if you took a shit, please put it back

Classic Game Room is probably the best review series on the web. You've already spoiled yourself.

I like the Spoony One too, but I think his best reviews are the Ultima reviews. They're informative, but still funny.

I say this every time it comes up, Matt Chat. Great reviews, and interviews with all sorts of luminaries. Mostly tilted towards the classic PC side of things, but there's something for everyone.

Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw is also good, though generally not retro. He doesn't like many games, but he usually provides an interesting rationale for why he doesn't and it's very funny.

I will give your suggestions a try. I don't think Classic Game Room is the best of all but I do like that the videos come out faster than other reviewers.
Thanks everyone...

I'm subscribed to all of these guys on YouTube, each has a great perspective and grasp on classic gaming and are entertaining at the same time:

-CGRUndertow - Reviews released nearly daily, a spin-off show of Classic Game Room starring reviewers other than Mark.

-Classic Game Room - Again, reviews released nearly daily, and Mark's one of the original internet classic game reviewers.

-G4 Icons - This originally aired on TechTV/G4 years back, but hasn't been seen on-air in a long time. You can still find many episodes of this absolutely epic and interesting as hell T.V. show that showcases some of the biggest consoles, games, creators, and events in gaming history. Unfortunately you can't find all of the episodes on YouTube, but the ones you can find are great.

-Gamester81 - This guy's collection is like the holy grail of game collections, look up his collection on YouTube sometime. If you want reviews of rare stuff, he's the guy to turn to.

-Irate Gamer - I know this is a controversial pick, but I love his sense of humor. People love to bash this guy and say he's nothing more than a rip-off of AVGN. I say, yeah right. AVGN loves dick and fart jokes, way too much; and I love the addition of the recurring characters on Irate Gamer, it really makes the show feel like those old horror shows that showed scary movies and had the horror hosts in the 80s.

-Metal Jesus Rocks - I just discovered this guy (thanks to this forum), and so I'm enjoying his reviews a lot. He puts a lot of his own styIe into them, which is that of a 80s headbanger, which I can totally relate to.

-Screw Attack - Meh, these guys are hit or miss. But when they do something good, it's usually pretty good.

-TurboViews - Easily the best reviews of TurboGrafx-16 games out there, ever.

I also really love Spoony's spoofs and skits starring his Dr. Insano character, freaking hilarious! But I'm not really a big fan of his actual game reviews.
