. It's pretty fun, but my problem is that it's still the same pokemon forumula:
[insert evil pokemon group] + [asshole rival] + [NEW FEATURE: Friends

To be fair though, I would give it an 8.5. The cut scenes in this game are really impressive for the DS, and I enjoy how the gyms have changed a bit. The gyms are more like puzzles for the gyms instead of run in destroy everyone, (unless you lose a battle the back to the poke center) but there's some with pokemon trivia and what not, and it helps the game having a little variety, but all in all. It's still pokemon, but they've also focused on higher end fights as well.
Anyway, I would recommend picking it up if you're in need of a new pokemon game, or a RPG for the DS, but if you didn't like Pokemon before, this isn't going to change your mind.
Daito Kid.
The "puzzle gyms" sound cool. I hadn't heard of that

. I always hated how the gyms always felt like more of the same battles. Although I've been getting worse the past few days I've been trying not to look up everything about the games (the gym detail is fine). I played most of Pearl, but Gen IV never really caught on for me. My friend and I mostly play Gen III (to this day). This will change that. It's going to be so nice to play Wifi battles instead of having to travel 600 miles to play each other with a 3 foot link cable.
We play a pseudo competitive meta, where we EV train, breed, and give some focus to IVs, but then only raise Pokemon we think look awesome, can imagine them doing something awesome, have sweet Pokedex entries, or have some sort of exclusive move. It looks like this gen is really adding a ton of abilities and items that will make the battles we have be so much more varied and fun. And while most recently we've been doing that in Emerald, prior we were doing it in FireRed and LeafGreen (which is like trying to go cross country on a broken bike and could take like 100 hours for some Pokemon). So even the stuff they added in Gen IV is like a Godsend and will help so much in letting us output more Pokemon in less time and enabling us to have massive teams.
The importance to us of unlimited TM use cannot be understated.
Plus we like so many of the new Pokemon designs. They're so colorful compared to the normal blues, browns, red-browns, greens, and purples Pokemon seemed to always be. Still wishing they had an option to have ambient noise in addition to or instead of music. When I'm going through a forest I wish there was some way for me to just hear bushes brusling and Pokemon cries. In a cave I want to hear light rock tumblings, hollow wind noises, and perhaps water drops. At 4AM or so sometimes you just want something more relaxed than some "BE, DE NE NE, DE NE NE, BU DOO DE NE NE!!" music crap.
But yes. As a bit of a Pokemaniac I'm going to enjoy the game! Glad you had fun with it too! A (jealous) part of me hates you for importing though
