The one that keeps getting away...
The one that keeps getting away...
Have you spent years on a quest to get a certain game or system (or whatever) for your collection, only to be thwarted at every chance? Tell your stories here!
I've been trying to get a copy of Rage of the Dragons for the Neo Geo for years now. So far:
- Outbid on at least 2-4 ebay auctions.
- Scammed by an ebay seller (on the single auction I won)
- Saw a copy at a game show and the guy "forgot" to hold the game for me as I took a whole 15 min to get the cash.
Finally, I managed to find a Neo Geo MVS cabinet for sale in my area and went ahead and bought the game on MVS. The seller of the MVS cab ended up giving it to his relatives, and now it looks like I will have the game...and nothing to play it on. Go figure.

Wow that sucks! Sorry to hear that man. Nothing worse than getting scammed on ebay or any auction for that matter.
I have had plenty of games that kept getting away but since I discovered emulators & ROMs I don't feel so robbed anymore thankfully.

I am addicted to video games, especially retro gaming from my era. I have: NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Gameboy, GBA, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I have probably over 1,000 games in total for all these systems combined. Yes, I need help and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my passion and hey my wife still loves me!!

Crap like this kept happening to me with Samurai Shodown for the Genesis for some reason. It's not even a rare or expensive game but every time I tried to buy it on eBay I ran into problems. It was like it was cursed or something.

Saigo no Nindo for PCE (Ninja Spirit). It's not that rare, but whenever I saw it in a shop, I didn't have cash on me (These shops rarely, if ever, take cards). Whenever I went back to get it, it was gone. I'll get it one day.

hmm.. not really to be honest
usually when i lose it 2 times i raise my max bid for the next one and then usually win it

Raiden DX for PS1. I always put in a decent bid on eBay but it always goes to someone else. The original Raiden is one of the few video games not for the 2600 my wife actually played growing up and I used to play a flash game version of Raiden II a lot in high school so I really want this one.

I have been slowly piecing together the parts needed for a working V64 for a while now, and the only thing left is the cartridge passthrough adapter, which is proving to be the most excruciatingly difficult to find. I almost got it a few weeks ago, but it turned out to be a scam.

I've been trying to get Harvest Moon and EVO for Super Nintendo for over 10 years now. I have come close to getting Harvest Moon until once I finally got it and it was actually broken. There was no way to fix it so I sold it (luckily for more than what I paid). I have never come close to owning EVO yet.

I LOVE that game! I used to rent it back in the day, but I don't recall EVER seeing a copy for sale in stores.darthmunky wrote:I have never come close to owning EVO yet.

Re: The one that keeps getting away...
I was lucky enough to track down EVO myself, don't think I paid too much either.
For me MMX3 and Secret of Mana were some I'd periodically see when I was younger, wouldn't have the money at the time so I'd wait it out and I always went back to seeing they were completely gone. I finally got my hands on them eventually though and mint copies, it was worth it.
I remember last year I found Dino Crisis 2 at a store for cheap in the case and all, for some reason it's one I own missing a case (think I bought it from Blockbuster), I went back just a few days later to pick it up and it was gone. Damn!
