While I was at work today I had a strange idea in my head.....
all the rage is to mod home consoles into portables (a la ben heck).
but can a PSP be modded into a home console? Just for sh!ts and giggles?
disabling the screen, replacing chips and moving optical drives, and remolding a case, and repositioning parts to make it look like a home system. I'll bet it would be quite tiny.
no modding would happen to the discs they would be inserted normally into the system. Maybe using the first generation PSP disc tray with the PSP 2000 a/v output so who knows?
The PSP is fairly new but how good is its longevity electronic wise? Gameboy bricks are practically indestructible but how will PSP's fare in the next 15 years? So maybe making a Console PSP be a good thing?
what is your opinion on my zany idea?

Re: Reverse PSP mod?
Interesting idea.. a couple things I'm concerned with are how to comfortably implement controller usage, and ultimately if it's really worth the trouble - considering AV input is possible with later PSP models with just a single cable sold at retail..
However, would I do something like this? Hell yeah! The project may defeat the purpose of the original medium, but to play my portable games *perfectly* on my TV screen, (complete in HD/1080 compatible format) would be pretty sweet!

Re: Reverse PSP mod?
I don't know why one would mod a PSP other then to play a PSP exclusive game on the HD with a better controller. The screen resolution isn't as good as the console.
The PSP already has a TV component cable available. Without a complete gutout, a regular PS2 controller could be added, soldered on to the PCB of the removed PSP buttons. The single Analog stick conversion might be the tricky part though, a match of the resistance in the potentiometers.

You can use a PSP Go. It has bluetooth and is completely compatable with a PS3 controller.
But no UMD

A good route. A shame the Logitech UMD drive never came out.Rayban wrote:You can use a PSP Go. It has bluetooh and is completely compatable with a PS3 controller.

what? That was a real thing?CRTGAMER wrote:A shame the Logitech UMD drive never came out.
Re: Reverse PSP mod?
It was planned my logitech to be the solution to the PSPgo's lack of a umd drive, but in the end, they couldn't get an okay from sony for ripping the UMD to the Go, and carrying it around at all times defeated the purpose.
Oh yah, IIRC, it was estimated at $100 ESRP.

If you aren't having a good time, why are you playing?
