I got a Wii recently and softmodded it myself. I'm running firmware 4.1E. Most things work great except for no sound on 2 games: GC Mario Kart and Wii Zelda Twilight princess. They are fully playable but there is no sound. Both games are PAL originals and the discs are in perfect condition. I tried loading them through the Disc Channel as well as through a loader. The problem was there even before I softmodded and both on firmware 3.4E and 4.1E. Mario Kart plays perfect on my GC so I know it's not the disc.
Any clue what the hell is going on?
Edit: This happens no matter which sound setting I use: Mono/Stereo/Surround
The only sounds are those coming out of the Wiimote

Re: No sound on some Wii games
I downloaded an ISO of Twilight Princess and the sound problem is there as well.
Then I tried the GC version of Twilight Princess and also no sound. Weird. And irritating.
Update. I also noticed that there is no sound after pressing the Home button and selecting to return to the Wii Menu. The sound only comes back after I get back to the main Wii menu.
Update 2. Runnng the game from a USB disc still gives me no sound.

Re: No sound on some Wii games
Bumping the thread because I'm hoping that somebody has a clue what's going on. I'll probably end up buying a second Wii (console only) to play Zelda and the other games. Especially if the new Zelda has the same problem.
Found more games without sound:
Gamecube: Zeldas (except Collector Edition, which works well), Mario Sunshine, Mario Kart
Wii: Zelda TP, Link's Crossbow Training, Mario Galaxy

I had a similar problem with the PC on certain games, requiring a shutdown to clear the sound card. Maybe try powering down instead of standby mode when switching the troublesome game? You can go extreme and unplug the power supply to completely clear out the "buffers."

The Wii stays unplugged overnight and that makes no difference.
Mario Galaxy doesn't work either.

Re: No sound on some Wii games
You might want to check out what versions of each of the IOS' that your Wii is running. Even though you're on 4.1E there might be some outdated IOS' and that could be the issue.
(FC, AVFC, NES, SFC x2, SNES, N64, GC x2, Wii x2)*(G&W x7, GB, GBpocket, GBASP, DS-L x2)
(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)

Maybe might even be the cable connections? Unplug and plug back in a few times to clean the contacts. Also check that the RCA connectors are all the way in. A multimeter can confirm continuity. You can also run a game and jiggle those connectors to check for a broken wire.
