So long story short I'm dead set on buying a PSP tomorrow. I gave my wife a Valentine's Day she loved and she was fine when I told her I was going to get myself a nice birthday present. To top it off I got my bonus today as well so God's obviously giving me his blessing on picking up a PSP .
So my question is: should I buy a used 2000 (If I can find one) or get a new 3000? I've been debating this for a couple of days and I can't make up my mind so I thought I'd come to you guys for advice. I know the 2000 is supposed to have the better screen without any scanline issues but I'm concerned about the quality of any used units I might find. Given the glossy nature of the black finish on the PSP and the easily scratched screen picking up a new 3000 is sounding good as well. So should I get a used, possibly dinged up 2000 with no screen issues or a new, pristine 3000 with possible screen issues? Money's not a big deal because I got the bonus/approval from wife and I'm not really interested in emulation.

I think the screen on the 3000 is actually better, not worse.
But (call me Uncle Scrooge) I would go for a used 2000 because it is much better value for money. And you can actually get non-dinged ones for much cheaper than a new one - look around a bit and be selective I'm sure its possible to find well conserved / barely used ones.
IF you DO care about Custom Firmware, you may want to try to get a 2000 that already has CFW of has OFW version that lets you "permanently" install CFW over the ones that only let you put temporary CFW (as far as I know, no 3000s can get permanent CFW, although this may have changed with the aftermath of the PS3 hack and the codes for PSP etc.).
The 3000 has a worse screen than the 2000. So if that bothers you, get a 2000. The 2000 and 3000 are practically identical in every other way. Personally I'd save the extra bucks and get a 1000 unless you're totally creaming your pants about playing PS2 ported games on a handheld on your TV...

yeah now that HEN is signed, it's honestly like 5 seconds to run the program in the unusual case that you'll need to.
