Re: Recommended podcasts!
You'd think so, but seriously -- it's the most "professional" and structured podcast out there regarding retro gaming. I mean I love(d) Retronauts, but that was definitely a different format. Y'know the whole roundtable thing. And that worked for what they were doing. But many podcasts out there are really unorganized. Dave really tries to make the Racketcast sound like an episode of All Things Considered or something. It's great. My biggest pet peeve with it is that it's not released often enough.swiftzx wrote:noiseredux wrote:the Racketboy podcast is hands down my favorite.

Armchair Arcade also has an excellent podcast.

I really enjoyed their book, Vintage Games. But I could not seem to enjoy their podcast.Hatta wrote:Armchair Arcade also has an excellent podcast.

How do you like Matt's video blog "Matt Chat"?
Now that I think of it, the Armchair Arcade stuff tends to have less conversation and almost more of a lecture feel. I like that but I can see how some wouldn't.

Re: Recommended podcasts!
Never seen it. I don't actually care for video stuff. The reason I enjoy podcasts so much is because I have about an hour and a half a day in my car, so it's easy to pass the time listening. But I don't think I've ever actually even watched a video review or anything like that. No interest.Hatta wrote:How do you like Matt's video blog "Matt Chat"?
yeah, I think a lecture style COULD work, but I didn't care for theirs. At least the episodes I've heard. They came off as un-organized and boring to me. Very rambling. For instance there was one touted as the history of shmups. It was like 45 mins of (I forget which one) talking in an almost whispery voice as if he were trying not to wake somebody up. And BASICALLY he just like named games for 45 mins rather than explaining in any real detail WHY each game was significant, or really shedding any real light on anything. And I think after the 45 mins he didn't come to any natural conclusion, he just kind of said "oh well I guess I've talked for longer than I Planned so I'll just stop here."Now that I think of it, the Armchair Arcade stuff tends to have less conversation and almost more of a lecture feel. Re: Recommended podcasts!
Lot of great gaming podcasts mentioned in this thread. I have also been checking out some fantastic non gaming related ones(which is why I originally posted this thread in off topic/whatever).
I've been getting hooked on the Nerdist podcast with Chris Hardwick. Lot of great guests and interesting conversations that go back and forth between educational and funny. They had a FANTASTIC interview with Doctor Who's Matt Smith and this was apparently his first podcast inerview ever. They also did one podcast that was essentially a comedy special featuring stand up from some funny people I had never heard of before
I have also been laughing out loud with Doug Love Movies, which is almost TOO funny for its own good. His podcasts can make your stomache hurt. Doug Benson is the funniest stoner alive.
Comedy Death Ray has a few funny episodes like a great one involving Andy Richter and a fifteen year old intern who was surprisingly funny for a kid.
I'm also loving Chuck versus the Podcast for the best coverage of one of my favorite shows on tv, though oddly enough they seem to miss a lot of the geeky references on the show and tend to focus more on the story and character arcs. It's like hearing from hardcore fans of the show who AREN'T geeks which is sort of interesting as it shows how universal Chuck's appeal as a show is.
I also listened to a very interesting interview with Patton Oswalt on the Totally Laime Podcast. Good stuff
I tried listening to some of Bill Burr's podcasts given how funny his stand up, but was a bit turned off by his apparent HATRED for nerds, which extends to a hatred of all sci fi movies. Kind of dissapointing to find out that someone whose work you enjoyed is a bit of a dousche
Getting hooked on these podcasts. Makes my work days soooooo much easier to get through

Voltaire, especially his banned on vulcan stuff. Sure to make any trekie sit and contemplate.
Why did Kevin Flynn blare Journey so loud in his arcade? Was he trying to hear it from the grid?
