I don't own an NES. There are only one or two games I would like to own and play for NES so I don't want to dump a bunch of money into another system and getting something entirely reliable is a selling point.
Has anyone used one of the new knock off systems capable of playing older games, like this one?: http://cgi.ebay.com/SUPER-TOP-LOADER-NE ... dZViewItem
Is that a decent way to go or should I just look for a nice used old NES?
Knock off NES systems, any good or should I get a real one?

Buy a real NES and if it's got problems buy a new 72 pin for like 10 bucks, they are really easy to put in.
The knock off machines are usually made pretty cheap, and usually have less than 90% percent compatability. I'm pretty sure that none of them will play Castlvania 3. Which sucks, cause it's one of the best Castlevania games!
If you do get one buy the Messiah one, they are well made and have a compatability list on the site. But they are expensive which defeats the purpose.
I have a boxed Action set I'm selling on ebay. To bad I didn't know, cause we could've made a trade or I would have gave you a good deal. If you do win the auction i will give you a 10% discount.

As always Racket has already thought of this:

I have never used one but I'm strangly drawn to collect them

scooter you seem to like peripherals for the sega consoles. the main reason I don't sell off my NES carts and stick with emulation is because there are really good peripherals for the NES.Scooter wrote:I don't own an NES. my girlfriend uses 'eggsplode/short order' and 'world class track meet' with the powerpad pretty regularly as a workout. Light gun games are fun and fairly accurate for a home console. 4score allows for 4 player NES action.
most of the knockoff consoles either have the wrong shaped controller plug, or just plain wont accept them.
what are the games that have you are interested in getting an NES?

I'm a big fan on Felix the Cat and recently discovered there is an NES Felix the Cat game. I could get that game and feed two collecting needs at one time!Jubal wrote: what are the games that have you are interested in getting an NES?

For the price and quality, it looks like the Retro Duo would be the way to go and I'd pick up the ability to play SNES games as well.
I wish the Retro Duo had been part of Racketboy's review of clones and had been included in the video/audio comparisons among the various clones available. I'd at least like to know how it stacks up agains an original NES.
