Re: Guitar Hero is dead
The thing is, you can make some money now OR do as Konami and get several millions every year since they invented the genre as we know it (And that's per game they have!)FiftyDollarCurse wrote: So why would you losing out on the cash that could be made when the games are at their peak?
You know, I hate when people do that comparison because it makes no sense. Madden never changes it's gameplay, each new musical game release does because each song means new challenges, new notecharts, new, different gameplay.Flake wrote:I equate it to a franchise like Madden. Essentially, the customer base pays full price annually for what amounts to a simple re-mix or modification of what they paid for last year.

Why not? It would be dumb to make a game without the constrictions of reality and then force them anyways.
At least Guitar Hero gave us cheap controllers to emulate the new Guitar Freaks that uses 5 buttons.

You could not be more wrong. It is in the exact same boat as the Madden franchise. Guitar Hero 2 is exactly the same as Guitar Hero 1, with the exception of having different songs. Just because the notes are laid out different does not mean it is new gameplay by any stretch of the imagination. The notes and songs obviously have to be different because the fundamentals of gameplay mechanics. That argument doesn't make any sense.General_Norris wrote:You know, I hate when people do that comparison because it makes no sense. You can buy track packs for Rockband that have a dozen songs on them, and it doesn't require you to actually own Rockband to play these specific songs. These are new songs, on a new disc with new note charts, yet is still exactly the same game. At least with these types of games/addons they have the decency not to try and pass them off as "Rockband 2.5" or whatever.
You could turn on Guitar Hero 1 or 2 without showing someone which game it is, and they would not be able to tell one from another. Same thing goes for Rockband, same thing goes for Madden, same thing goes for NHL games, etc.
Its the same fucking thing every year. If anything the new games are just expensive, improperly labeled expansion packs.

Yes it is?Para wrote:Guitar Hero 2 is exactly the same as Guitar Hero 1, with the exception of having different songs. Just because the notes are laid out different does not mean it is new gameplay by any stretch of the imagination.
You are handwaving new releases as if it were a cosmetic choice like new Madden versions. The songs, the notecharts are the whole point of the game.
You know what? We should stop making more music if it's not for a new instrument. It's the same fucking thing every year, the Piano is 300 years old already, it should die or somethingIts the same fucking thing every year. Wanna call it an expansion pack? Sure go ahead. But that doesn't mean it's crap or not what makes a musical game good.
ALso calm down, I guet that you don't like music games but it's no reason to FUCKING USE FUCKING ALL THE TIME.

LIES! Seriously though, Guitar Hero 2 had many refinements in the game engine that very much made it different from Guitar Hero 1. If you play both on expert, you quickly will know which is which because it made actually made Hammer-ons/pull-offs an option.Para wrote: You could not be more wrong. Play Rock Band or any newer GH game and then go back and try and play the first one. The gameplay changes will be very apparent if you're any good at the games.
Re: Guitar Hero is dead
I said "fuck" once in my post but alright.
I am also not directing any anger or hostility towards you. My problem is with the game industry and stupid companies like EA and Activision. I understand where you are coming from and I agree with you on the Madden aspect of this but I don't see how they can justify new songs as an entirely new game.
I don't understand your point about the piano or whatever. I never once mentioned anything about new additions of instruments or anything. Going from Guitar Hero 3 to Band Hero is an acceptable sequel because it actually adds a new element to the game play, which I am a fan of. (Not to give the impression that I am a fan of Band Hero because that game is just terrible, but I do commend them for ripping off Rockband and adding new instruments)
I am actually a huge fan of music based rhythm games, but I can kind of see why you assume I am not. I never once mentioned me disliking the games or genre. Along with a million other people, I hate it when companies rerelease the same game over and over again, whether it be first person shooters, music games, sports games, etc.
As far as disliking music and music based games:
I own Guitar Hero 1, 2, and 3, Rockband 1 and 2. (I also own and love Frequency and Amplitude, which are both rhythm based music games made by Harmonix, which predate Guitar Hero) I have spent countless hours playing all of them, and I am actually pretty decent too. I have four guitars, a harmonica, a cowbell (lol), and even a piano which I apparently hate.
Unlike most people I am not simply hating on music games for no reason. Music and gaming are clearly something that are important to me or the whole situation wouldn't bother me so much. I love the genre but I hate what it has become.
I am not trying to personally attack you or start an internet fight, I simply disagree with you and if you can't deal with someone disagreeing with you, I would suggest not using the internet at all.
Edit: I am also aware of the game engine improvements and I understand why that is so important to these games. That is why Guitar Hero 2 is better than Guitar Hero 1, and why Guitar Hero 3 and Band Hero suck so hard compared to Rockband. I didn't mean to imply that they are LITERALLY exactly the same game.
I am sure someone who is an expert on Madden games could come in this thread and try to explain how each game deserves to be its own release and point of the minor differences in the game engines.

Re: Guitar Hero is dead
Madden changes the gameplay every year in different ways - sometimes the changes are good and stick with the franchise, other times they are not. Gameplay changes include everything from different kinds of button arrangements, new motions players can perform, coaching options, camera options, etc. They also regularly introduce new modes, unlocakbles, etc. For example, they got rid of speed burst this year in Madden (as a default setting), instead allowing for a more natural speeding up over the course of a run. Do you expect them to change the rules of football every year? I find that people who complain about Madden usually know nothing or very little about the games...General_Norris wrote: You know, I hate when people do that comparison because it makes no sense. Also, am I the only person here who has never clicked a plastic guitar or beat a plastic drum? I never saw the appeal of any of these games, and don't ever plan to play a single one. Their decline and disappearance is just as boring to me as their appearance and rise in popularity.

Hence my Piano example. The Piano has been kept without improvements in the way you play it for three hundred years. Does that mean it's bad for me to make more pieces to play with one because I like playing it?Going from Guitar Hero 3 to Band Hero is an acceptable sequel because it actually adds a new element to the game play, which I am a fan of.
Hell, why make new plataformers or new shumps? Why make new racing games? What was added other than new levels, which are exactly as new songs in a musical game?
Are not Megaman 2, 4, 5, 6 acceptable sequels? Because they added nothing, they were more of the same except for the new level design. Which is, you know, the point.
@dsheim
Yeah, I know they improve the gameplay slowly should have kept my mouth shut. (I also know nothing about Madden, since American Football is not popular here).
And yes the comparison with American Football's rules is a good one. If I have an instrument, plastic or not, should we change it every year?

I was about to say the same thing. Sports games do change a lot. I don't know about Madden, but when people say that FIFA or PES don't ever change, I call them idiots. Most people who say this don't even play the games, they should keep their mouth shut.dsheinem wrote:Madden changes the gameplay every year in different ways - sometimes the changes are good and stick with the franchise, other times they are not.
