I work in retail selling these things and every Blu-ray player I've seen has been completely backward compatible with DVD. In fact with the upscaling they are capable of it will even make them look a little better than a regular DVD player would.Gamerforlife wrote:So, is it true that Blue Ray players can't play standard DVDs, which would mean that everyone needs to buy all of their movies again for like what? The third time?
If that's the case, fuck Blue Ray.
The whole Blu-ray vs HD-DVD has been something of a forgone conclusion for some time now. The store I work at has never ordered a HD-DVD player because we've known that it would die.
Calling people stupid for buying HD-DVD ain't right. Calling people stupid for buying HD-DVD because it has HD in the name is. Knock yourself out.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

I hope this is the case, as I'm simply not willing to replace all my DVDs with £50 Blu Ray copies that are barely any different.lordofduct wrote:Good for the blue ray, it'll only fail in the long run anyways as well. It ain't like this format is gonna stick into the main consumer market like Sony hopes. It will stagnate, pitter away, and finally one day will be replaced with some newer format that actually has a big difference over DVD.

The thing is, you all will need massive screens to be able to enjoy anything much better.
