I remember a lot of people talking about how Through the Fire and the Flames was harder to play on Guitar Hero's Expert mode than it was on a real six-string.Niode wrote:As soon as I couldn't play a song on Expert that I could play ON A REAL FUCKING GUITAR I lost interest. Seriously, that just shouldn't happen. No way should a game be harder than the real thing.
Guitar Hero is dead
Re: Guitar Hero is dead
Good riddance, I stopped caring about Guitar Hero since the band-specific games started coming out. Harmonix expects me to change games whenever I want to play a Metallica song or if my friend wants to play a Beatles song? Fuck that, I'd rather just download the Metallica DLC Pack for Rock Band. I might not have many songs, but at least my shelf wouldn't be filled with 5 Guitar Hero games!

On one hand, sacking and studio closers are always sad. On the other hand, this brings us one step closer to seeing Bobby Kottick being fired....and him getting a huge compensation check, while the new boss fires even more people to make the company profitable again....
Anyway, I don't think Acti is worried yet. They still have Blizzard.

Good riddance indeed. I have played a guitar hero game once and I had fun, but the franchise had turned into a soulless cash cow, with so many damn releases it might as well have been a sports game. Got too big for its britches

You know, even sports games don't have so many releases in the same franchise in a single year.Gamerforlife wrote:Sees topic title, opens up a bottle of champagne

Oh wait. EA actually did try that. Other thant he normal version of FIFA, and that year's World Cup they tried releasing a yearly Champion's League version....which was always included in the normal FIFA games anyway. How much do they think people like football games?

Re: Guitar Hero is dead
You know they do this on purpose, right? Activision can make a lot more money on 7 shitty games in 5 years then they are going to with 2 really good ones in 8 years. The fake plastic instruments games were a passing fad when they made the first one. So why would you losing out on the cash that could be made when the games are at their peak?General_Norris wrote:Ah Activision, how many more franchises will you drive to the ground when you could have reaped benefits for decades?

No offense man, but I don't think rhythm games are meant to be viewed as simulation games.

Re: Guitar Hero is dead
I'm more sad about DJ hero being lost, since it was an actually good game. Though it's probably better they didn't make any more games, lest they turn into a zombie like their big brother. Maybe Harmonix and MTV games can make something similar soon.

To say that Guitar Hero is "Dead" now implies that it's been any sort of alive for the past few years. Really this is more like Bobby's grotesque corpse-puppet getting its strings clipped.
Re: Guitar Hero is dead
As much as I loved these music games back in the day GOOD F***ING RIDDANCE, take rock band with you. What did they really expect when you release a new game ever thirty seconds? Does this mean we won't get guitar hero adam sandler or band hero rick astley? what about dj hero malibu's most wanted?
I am hoping the same thing happens to call of duty. I'm sick of a new game every year. F*** the first person shooter genre too, it's way overblown.
It's why I never purchased one madden game. It's the same sh*t year after year.
Back in the days of genesis and snes I would buy the ea sports NHL games each year because at least it was more than a roster / color palete upgrade. SOME new features would be added. But it was not oversaturation.
Like most everyone has said on various websites, after guitar hero 3 they went way down hill, trying to keep up with rock band. And rock band is nucking futs if they think i'm dropping 500 bucks to play "real" instruments on rock band 3. I'm fine with rock band 2, if I wanted to learn "real" instruments, i'd buy a f***ing guitar.
If they take about ten years off, then try again it will be ok. But judging by their history i give it a year MAX two before we see guitar hero returns or some sh*t like that. MAYBE rock band will get the idea before they release rock band nickleback, gee THAT will sell millions...
