Re: Guitar Hero is dead
They oversaturated it to death the way only Activision knows how. At least they didn't drag down the entire industry this time.
Re: Guitar Hero is dead
So is it just the brand "Guitar Hero" or is it the entire "Hero" range (Dj Hero, Band Hero, etc?)

I wouldn't be surprised if band hero was included. I would think that dj hero is staying.emwearz wrote:So is it just the brand "Guitar Hero" or is it the entire "Hero" range (Dj Hero, Band Hero, etc?)

Unless Konami can ever get BeatMania to catch on in the West, DJ Hero doesn't really have any competition to worry about.SwooshBear wrote:I wouldn't be surprised if band hero was included. Alright Sega, this is your chance. The field is clear. Time for a proper sequel to Samba de Amigo.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
Re: Guitar Hero is dead
I wish Activision would just go away. When was the last time they released a good game? They ran COD into the ground, they ran Tony Hawk into the ground and they ran Guitar Hero into the ground. Honestly, Activision's Guitar Hero, isn't Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero died when Activision bought RedOctane and sacked Harmonix. Guitar Hero has sucked since Guitar Hero 3. I'm glad I jumped ship to the vastly superior Rock Band.
I just don't understand Activision, they forced Neversoft to go from making skateboarding games to making music games. That's like expecting a bassist to be able to play the violin since they both have 4 strings... As soon as Guitar Hero 3 came out I KNEW it wasn't made by musicians since none of the notemaps made any sense. Guitar Hero 1 and 2 made sense, it had logical placement of notes. With GH3 you might as well have been playing fucking DDR for all the sense the 'notes' made. It was difficulty for the sake of difficulty, not difficulty because the song was hard to play in real life. As soon as I couldn't play a song on Expert that I could play ON A REAL FUCKING GUITAR I lost interest. Seriously, that just shouldn't happen. No way should a game be harder than the real thing.
I actually like the way Harmonix is progressing with the Rock Band series. They're actually giving innovation and progression to the genre, they want more people to play music. That's an admirable thing. Harmonix understands music, quite a considerable portion of the dev team are also accomplished musicians or in real bands. Plus their games make sense. They understand that some people just want to jump in and out of a game, they don't want to have to be told they suck at a song. It's a party game, it should be enjoyed by all, regardless of skill level. However it has the extra depth for the people that want to get something out of it. Such as learning to play the keyboard or the drums. I'm actually a decent drummer now thanks to Rock Band. I couldn't drum for shit before Rock Band came along, but I worked my way up the difficulties. I'm no fucking John Bonham, but at least I can rock a beat should I need to.
Edit:
It's a shame that DJ Hero has been shut down as well. That game is actually good. The rest of the Hero franchise is bollocks, but DJ Hero was a pretty good fucking game, made by people who understand what makes a good music game.

Re: Guitar Hero is dead
Indeed. When I still had roomates, they borrowed GH and that stupid click clack drove me nuts while they tainted my poor PS2. I'm surprised the market supported the insane rate that GH/RB were coming out as well. Even if you like those games, how many times do you need to rebuy it? It is a genre that actually makes a lot of sense for DLC songs and song packs.Flake wrote: Click click click

I equate it to a franchise like Madden. Essentially, the customer base pays full price annually for what amounts to a simple re-mix or modification of what they paid for last year.Hobie-wan wrote: I'm surprised the market supported the insane rate that GH/RB were coming out as well.
