Space or Atmosphere. I found out last night that several of the members of my church love flight sims, but rarely get to play them. So we are (hopefully) going to setup a lan party at the church in the near future for flight sims. I have always loved a good game of Xwing vs Tiefighter, but I am looking for more suggestions.
For the record, I have all of the Xwing games, Xplane 9, and Freelancer.

Wing Commander Armada maybe?
Re: Favorite Multiplayer Flight sims?
You will be throwing Descent Freespace in there of course, right?
Re: Favorite Multiplayer Flight sims?
If you want something a little more arcade-ish, then DogFighter is a pretty good time for multiplayer.

I forgot about Freespace (and that I own Freespace 2 thanks to GOG) and I didnt know Wing Commander Armada was multiplayer - thanks Gunstar Green.
JT, as much as I love Dogfighter, they want something heavier.

IL-2 Sturmovik supports LAN play. Dogfight or Co-Op. Flight sim geeks love this game. Hope everyone has their own HOTAS.

I haven't played my copy yet, but this is supposed to be one of the best flight sims. It can be had for $10 too on gog or steam.Hatta wrote:IL-2 Sturmovik supports LAN play. Dogfight or Co-Op. Flight sim geeks love this game. Hope everyone has their own HOTAS.

Descent, X-Wing - am I alone in not thinking of these as flight sims? I think of them as relatively simple shooters. Flight sims, by contrast, are complex beasts that require reading hefty manuals (http://www.microsoft.com/games/pc/flightsimulatorx.aspx).
Re: Favorite Multiplayer Flight sims?
Descent doesn't belong to the spacesim genre either, it's more of a corridor shooter. And to be honest games like XWing and Freespace aren't sims either, more like arcade shooters but lumped together with 'true' spacesims, much like Ace Combat is categorised as a sim whereas it couldn't be farther from it.

Wings of Prey is another strong contender. Not as intricate as IL-2 Sturmovik but definitely more accessible. Force feedback isn't that good but at least it has aircraft variety!

You might also want to look into EECH (the community version of EECH1) for helo sims. Ignore the sequel as it's not supported anymore.. If only EECH could be remade using the DCS engine!
