Need Good Game Recommendations for GBs, Game Gear, & SMS

Post by Evildeadmanwalking77 »

What are the absolute MUST plays for Game Boy, GB Color, GBA, Game Gear, & Sega Master System? I already know some of the basics for original Game Boy like Super Mario Land and Sonic for Game Gear. Sega Master System I just remember hating ALF and Ghostbusters but Shinobi and Double Dragon were pretty good. Suggestions are strongly welcomed here! :D Thanks guys!
I am addicted to video games, especially retro gaming from my era. I have: NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Gameboy, GBA, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I have probably over 1,000 games in total for all these systems combined. Yes, I need help and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my passion and hey my wife still loves me!!

I want to just point to the racketboy articles for the SMS so bad.

I'll be nice though, for the Master System you want to check out these at least:

Alex Kidd in Miracle World
Shinobi
Phantasy Star
Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap
Sonic the Hedgehog (different game than the genesis one)

I just took a quick look actually. Awesome! I do have some of those games already. The Godzilla GBA looks interesting and I love Double Dragon in general so that's a given for me (Mega Man as well, although I never tried any hand held versions of the series). I also own all of the E-reader cards as well.

Genres:
Side scrollers
action/beat em' ups
Adventure
Zelda type games, not complete RPGs though like Finaly Fantasy. I never knew how to classify Zelda. :?
Some sports & racing
Shooters

I pretty much like everything really, just not big into RPGs. I have to take a longer look at your blog though. Very insightfull from what I read so far! :)

Idk why the Sega Master System gets the red headed step child treatment? For what little bit of a library it supposedly has it really displayed some awesome power in terms of overall graphical display but we all know games can look beautiful but still have horrible gameplay. Keep'em coming though guys! I really appreciate it!

Zelda is an Action RPG. Get Final Fantasy Adventure for GB, it's the best non-Zelda Zelda game ever. (Technically it's Sword Of Mana, which I'll point out before some smarty pants adds it to my post.)

There's two Kirby's Adventure games for the GB, the two Super Mario Land games, three Wario Land games, Metroid II, a Kid Icarus Game, and some GBC Donkey Kong games. I second Noise's suggestion of Final Fantasy Adventure.

it's funny, it's often hard for me to just name good GB games. I play so many. I've literally played about 200+ this past year to be honest, so to narrow it down is sometimes hard. I'm a lot better if someone gives me a specific genre or if someone names a game they like and wants more like that one or something like that.

I guess I don't even have to ask how the Mega Man series is on any GB system then? I don't think I ever came across a Mega Man game that I played and didn't like.

I'm still going to have to pass on Final Fantasy though. Sorry. :( I originally checked on allgame.com to get the complete list of games and they even have ratings but I can't always go by ratings because I could end up liking a game that was given a poor review. I actually prefer getting opions from fellow gamers like the members on this board since we are usually the true gamers and fans.

the five GB Mega Man games are excellent. With four and five being the best. They're essentially mish-mashes of the NES games. Mega Man Wily's Revenge is like MM and MM2. Mega Man II is like MM2 and MM3. Etc. But Mega Man V is completely original. Very awesome.

the two GBC Mega Man games (the Xtreme) series are both good. But I don't like them as much as the GB ones. They're derivative of the X series on SNES.

when you get to GBA it's different.

You will want Mega Man & Bass, which is a port of a Japanese SNES game (Rock Man & Roll). But warning: it's fucking hard.

Then you'll want the four Mega Man Zero games.

But you'll most likely want to avoid all of the Battle Network series, as they are basically RPG's, which you don't like.

Correction- Megaman & Bass is a port of Rockman & Forte

Also, owning Megaman X-treme, It's alright, but the only Megaman game I ever really got into was MM2.
