PSone won't power on.

Ok so I have a PSone that's barely been used but one day it just refused to power on. I've googled around to see if there was a solution and it seemed that maybe one of the fuses were blown. So I bought a multimeter and tested every fuse I could find on the board, but all of them seemed to work fine.

So now I'm at a loss as to what the problem is. Any ideas, clues, hints whatsoever? Oh, and if it helps any, somebody installed a modchip on the board before I bought it.

Well, first off, have you tested the cable or checked the port where it plugs into the console?

Well, the power adapter seemed to be fine when I tested it a while back, with a friend's PSone but he's long since sold it so I can't check anymore. Is there a way to test it with a multimeter?

I have no idea how to check the port.

Oh, and I forgot to mention I'm talking about the slimline PSone.

I had to replace the power switch on several PSone systems.

The power switch! Hmmm... I recall now before this happened, I did have to push the power switch a couple of times before it decided to power on. Do I have to desolder to remove the power switch?

I haven't seen the inside of a PSOne, but it'll probably be either soldered on, or have a plug on it.

Just check the pin of the power plug with the multimeter set to read Direct Current 7.5 volts. The power input port connection can be checked by popping the console cover and reading off the PCB traces.

If a bad switch try unplugging the power and spray in a SMALL amount of contact cleaner. Let it dry for a while before testing.

I just reread the OP. Maybe check all the solder connections, perhaps a couple on board chip pins got accidently jumped togethor. Or maybe the mod chip is not connected right.

Thanks for the tips on checking the power adapter and power input connection. I'll do that this weekend.

Having checked the modchip and its solder connections, it looks (to me) a professionally done job. I was quite impressed how the guy did it, but then I've not seen many soldering jobs I guess. It should be connected right though, because the PSone did could read backups before it decided to die.
