haha! I did say "critiques welcome" so yeah, probably brought it on myself. It's all good anyway. Next time, I'll make sure to either write a proper review or label the article correctly, cos you guys are so damn particular.

I am sorry to say this as well, this article was more of a retrospect instead of a review. You wrote greatly on your past experiences with other Castlevania series, while skimpily on the actual gameplay of the game that you were to focus on.
So, what was the initial focus for this article? Were you trying to critique Harmony of Dissonance as a game by itself, or trying to compare it to other Castlevania games? Gotta be careful when you start writing, as you could go astray into other topics that are not relevant to the subject.

Damn fine game and a great tribute to the Symphony of the Night style.

why are so many of you acting like you've never read somebody's personal blog before?

Not all critiques must be positive. No-one told him to put down the pen, but one would imagine if he was to continue to write reviews, he'd want to know he wasn't doing it right.toadhall wrote:Critiques welcome.

I understand that part -- but I don't think he wanted anyone to critique the first post in this thread. I think he wanted critiques of his writing. However the critiques seem to be "you said it was a review. Webster's defines a review as......"irixith wrote:noiseredux wrote:why are so many of you acting like you've never read somebody's personal blog before? Not all critiques must be positive. That's okay, I appreciate all kinds of feedback, although I didn't think the standards were quite high around here. With such blog review connoisseurs such as you guys, I'd better step up my game!
It's a good thing nobody mentioned the several grammatical mistakes, malapropisms and typos in the post...

I would encourage you to read other gaming websites' reviews to figure out on how you would want the readers/audience to follow. And figure out what style (methodical, humor...) you can bring to the readers.
I personally follow Jeremy Parrish's articles on 1up.com, and the editorials on Destructoid .

wouldn't it be better if he just wrote like himself, and allowed the readers who appreciate that style to find him. That's how it worked with Parish.skyknight wrote:I would encourage you to read other gaming websites' reviews to figure out on how you would want the readers/audience to follow.
