Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance for GBA

Post by toadhall »

I recently played and finished this and wrote a review. Well, at more than 1300 words, it's probably an essay.

Check it out if you're bored:

Critiques welcome.

dude. Great post! Great post! And I love that you really let the article spread out and make itself comfortable and say everything it wanted to say. Keep it up. :)

Nice job, Harmony of Dissonance was my first of the nonlinear platformer Castlevanias and I did enjoy it quite a bit. I thought you gave the game a fair treatment; you weren't as harsh as I've seen some people been. Keep it up!

Less of a review and more of a .. personal anecdote?

You barely review the game itself at all, you've left a couple sentences down near the end to finally touch on it. I would have to disagree with the previous two posters and say that as a review, it's actually quite poor. As a blog post about a game you enjoyed however, it's passable.

Ah, yeah... I started with the intention of reviewing the game but ended up writing more of a personal anecdote. Calling it a review is a misnomer. My bad! Seems I end up doing this all the time. I'll try to write more about the game itself in future reviews

Anyways, thanks guys for the feedback. Am currently playing through Aria of Sorrow and I don't have as much to say about it in terms of anecdotes so maybe I'll actually review the game properly when I eventually write about it!

Noise, you like long, meaty posts huh?

when they serve a purpose -- yes. I believe that the prose itself will dictate its own length. Sometimes concise is what's best, sometimes sprawling.

And sometimes a game has already been reviewed into the ground and it is nice to get something different. Like this anecdote. Which I liked.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Sorry, didn't mean to sound rude earlier, I banged that out really quick before running off to work. It's not that it's bad, I just expected a review and didn't get one. :P

I'll have to agree with irixith on this. What you wrote is an editorial or retrospective, not a review. There's nothing wrong with writing retrospectives, but you should label them as such.
