I am using a HotRod joystick and Maximus Arcade as the frontend for my cabinet.
I keep having a problem where after playing a game for a while I can't exit any emulator to MA. I have it mapped that when I press P1 and P2 start at the same time it exits the emulator back to MA.
The problem is that after playing for a while I can't back out of the emulator (like I already mentioned) so I open up the cab and use the esc key on the keyboard. The problem is that now my keyboard or joystick wont work.
Any ideas if this is a MA or Win XP issue and how to fix it?

Reboot and maybe bypass that frontend and run your EMU, for instance Mame directly. If lockup goes away I suspect Maximus Arcade. See if any update available?

Also be sure you have Service Pack 3 installed for Win XP. Don't know if that will help, but can't hurt.

I wish I could help you but my mame cab front end is gameex.
Re: Arcade Joystick/Keyboard help
It sounds like a problem with Maximus. Mame is set up to exit by hitting the p1 and p2 at the same time, without having to program it. Although, I have had some issues with certain emulators exiting using the p1 p2 button. Which emulator are you having a problem with? Also, unless your sold on M A, try another front end. I use AtomicFE. I think its great. It has simple to use plugnplay for any emulator you want to run. You just download the program, download the emulator plug n play, and put the rom and snaps in the appropriate folders. It configures the rest for you. Also, like previously mentioned, open the emulator without using M A and see if you get the same results, that should narrow it down.

Re: Arcade Joystick/Keyboard help
I finally solved this problem and it was the NUM LOCK.
I turned the num lock off in the bios and then made sure it was off in XP and all has been fine since then. Too bad that hasn't helped my KOF skills too.

Re: Arcade Joystick/Keyboard help
A fix for Mame keyboard players. You can also disable one or both Windows keys.
