In Depth DC Shmup list

Post by HeavyMetalMe »

Anyone know where there is a good list of DC shmups? I've hit up most of the ones on the "hidden gems" guide, but I'm hungry for more!

Racket's list is pretty much all of them. The only ones he's missing are Trigger Heart Exelica and Karous, which both came out after the article I believe, neither of which I'd recommend. Which do you have?

EDIT: Nevermind. I thought you were referring to a different article. The Hidden Gems article lists all of them, I believe.

Have you tried Last Hope? I want to like it but it is just too hard! It is somewhat like R-type...horizontal, slow scrolling, memorization required. Last Hope looks awesome, but wow it destroys me every time.

For me, nothing satisfies a hunger for shooters like the Saturn does.

I downloaded a version of Noiz for DC... I don't think it was ever an official release.

We discussed quite a few on here.

And hopefully Racket's game database will come up soon....becasue I haven't found a real complete list.
Even the list on SHMUPS! isn't complete.

Do you have a Saturn? That will keep you busy :)

Unfortunately, I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so I want things to be good before showing it off.
I'm still prepping the data and tweaking the interface.

I've seen the lists you've compiled for Saturn on "hidden gems" and yes, I should invest in a Saturn soon. As for you being a perfectionist- not required, but always appreciated.

2D shooters are my favourite genre ever and I have the following on the DC
Bangai-Oh
Border Down
Castle of Shikigami 2
Chaos Field
Gigawing
Gigawing 2
Gunbird 2
Ikaruga
Karous
Last Hope
Mars Matrix (although it's a bit tempermental)
Psyvariar II
Radilgy
Triggerheart Excelica
Trizeal
Under Defeat
Zero Gunner 2

Once I have the complete set I aim to write a feature about them :)

Well, if you make some NeoDC discs you can also play some NeoGeo shmups like Blazing Star on your DC.
