Sega MegaCD model 2 problem

Post by peti9 »

Hi all!

I have just bought my first Sega CD. The seller claimed to have tested it. When I hooked it up I quickly turned it on and both leds on the MegaDrive and MegaCD lit up. On the second try the MegaCD stopped working. No led. I have opened the system to check the fuse but it seems alright. No burns or whatsoever. However I tried with a piece of wire to bypass the fuse, but still no reaction from the console. (I have noticed one thing. Comparing to pictures of open SegaCD units the switch which detects if the door is open or not should contain a transparent plastic cup. Mine doesn't, but still on first try it lit up, so shouldn't be a problem) Also when I turn on the system I hear a faint click from the CD unit, so it sounds like it gets power. Now I have cleaned the connectors, but still no reaction. My bet is maybe the power adapter. It's a 1602-18A. Please if you can help me with anything how to get it working feel free to reply to this thread. Thanks!

update: I have left the system on and only the MegaDrive adapter heats up the MegaCD
adapter stays cools. Could this mean the brick is dead?
