Should I buy this sealed Sega 32x ?

Post by mluitjens »

I was searching around online for a Sega 32x, and I came across a brand new factory sealed system. How much is this worth, the guy wants $130 for it. Should I get it or wait for a better deal elsewhere?

Depends on if you want it new in a box... $130 might be a good price.
But if you want one to play with all of the hookups you can get it for less than $30 from members (not any member but a mod) here.

I've owned two or three and I couldn't bring myself to keep any of them. The 32X takes up a ton of space, plus an extra power outlet, without bringing any substantial improvement to the Sega Genesis experience. The only game that really drew me back for more was Virtua Fighter, but then I realized after forcing myself to get the hang of it that I had Virtua Fighter 2 with better graphics. If you're like me and prefer to actually enjoy the games you own every now and then (like as in connect them to the TV and play them) the 32X might not be for you.

I swear people sell these on ebay for only $100. My friend found one sealed at a thrift store for $15!

The Sega CD does have its strengths and some good games, but honestly with the 32X.....I wouldn't even buy one for 20€. Even its killer app, Knuckles Chaotix isn't good (though if it was more like this.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12N5WfIgm6I it would be awesome . double pun intended).

You're better off buying a totally different console you don't own. Heck at 130$, that's half a 3DS

It sounds like a bit much, even if you just wanted the unopened 32X for collector's sake. Though I actually sort of like the thing and think its library gets a bum rap.
