Ridley Scott is behind this one though so it might turn out neat.

Ridley Scott was behind Robin Hood too. Face it the man's pulled a proverbial Spielberg/Lucas crapstravagnza on us.AppleQueso wrote:iirc it's not a remake, it's more of a prequel or something.

A Boy and His Dog
One of the better post-apocalyptic movies, this title predates the likes of Mad Max and is based on a novel by the same name. It's obvious they couldn't cram that much in the given running time, but what's there is enjoyable, as is the hot-headed Don Johnson character. The latter half is a clear inspiration for the vault sections of the Fallout series.

Let Me In: I was as nervous as everyone else when I heard they were making an American version of Let the Right One In, but this movie was excellent. The casting was amazing! Especially the two kids they got to play the leads (Owen and Abby in this version). The actress who played Abby was unbelievable. She really seemed like a...
SOMEWHAT OF A SPOILER
very old person that is stuck at a 12 year old mentality and maturity level - except, of course, when the instinct to feed kicks in and she becomes an animal. These two had a great chemistry and I found myself very moved by their interactions on screen.
MORE OF A SPOILER
Two things differed in the remake. First, they removed the castration angle. This bothered me at first, but I understand the director's decision. This would have kept the American public from embracing the film. The director obviously loves the story and was willing to cheat slightly to expose it to as many people as possible. It did not take away from the film at all as they just did not get into Abby's past. Apparently they filmed a scene with a young Abby being raped and turned by a Vampire cult, but this was kept out of the film as to not interrupt the flow. I agree with this decision also.
Second, and this may be the result of me missing something from the original, but Abby met her guardian years before in much the same way she meets Owen. They also developed a childhood love, which explains why he dedicated his life to caring for her. I guess this is how she has survived for so long. I did not like this for some reason. It makes perfect sense, as I was never able to fully grasp why Eli (in the original) had someone willing to go to such lengths for her, but takes away from how special the connection between Abby and Owen is.
Please see this movie, whether or not you have seen the original. If you have not see the original, see both!

That movie is great! As a bonus, if you ever watch The Book of Eli, you can spot an A Boy and His Dog movie poster in the background of the scene where Denzel Washington first meets Mila Kunis.Pulsar_t wrote:A Boy and His Dog

Pink Flamingos- uh...wow
Detective Story- Takashe Miike movie about a detective trying to solve a slew of murders where the bodies are missing various organs, pretty straightforward murder mystery movie, but with that sick Miike take, pretty good, but he has done much better
Half Nelson- my man Ryan Gosling plays an inner city school teacher addicted to cocaine, really touching story, with great acting and an amazing soundtrack by Broken Social Scene, this is a movie to check out

Uh...check out Female Trouble. Then Desperate Living (now, THAT'S gonzo!). Then you can either go on with the rest of John Waters' films in chronological order OR skip ahead to Cecil B. Demented and A Dirty Shame, but then you'd miss out on Hairspray. Cry-Baby's good, but not Hairspray good.
Also, check out his one-man show "This Filthy World". He's got some awesome stories, like when he talked about this one girl he saw at the supermarket. She was very angelic-looking and her mother just screamed "GET OVER HERE, SHIT-ASS!".

It's good to know that the remake didn't totally suck as remakes tend to do. I had high hopes when I found out Chloe Moretz was going to be in it, but I was still skeptical.
Saw True Grit tonight and it was pretty damned good! Bridges either shines in roles or annoys the hell out of me (such as in Fisher King) as he can go a little over the top and seem unnatural (not as bad, but kind of like Mel Gibson does lately since he lost his mind). He was pretty unbelievable though and very amusing. The little girl who played Maddy was a bit of a pain in the ass, but her character was written that way (and she seems not to have changed once an adult) so I guess that is a success. Mat Damon's character was a bit annoying as well and I wonder if Josh Brolan would have done better in the role. So Bridges basically carried the rest of the cast. As for the story, clever and a lot of fun until the end, which I found abrupt and cheesy. I get the...

metaphorical connection at the very end between the Pony who everyone doubted could do a horses work and Bridges who every one doubted could do the work of a real Marshall or Ranger. Just seemed weird that they threw it in at the end. Like everything was going along great, an awesome western, and then in the last five minutes the Coen Brothers said "we better throw in something artistic and moving" and then the movie was over, the credits accompanied by one of the most annoying songs I have ever heard (sounded like Dolly Parton). Like... wait what just happened? So it's over and... strange. Or maybe the Coens didn't believe that the audience figured out from the very beginning that the whole movie was about characters who everyone said could not do it, doing it so they tried to some everything up in the last five minutes. So if you want to see it you will enjoy it, just be ready for an ending that seems out of place.
