Saturn Controllers North America and Japan - Two Models?
From what I understand there were two different controller models released for the Saturn in North America and Europe? The genesis looking one and then the standard one from the Japanese releases. I'm wondering if anyone knows if the genesis-looking one was ever released in Japan? Appears the launch models of the Saturn in Japan to the last ones produced all used the same controller (aside from color and branding).

From what I know, the US and Europe got a chunkier gamepad, which was then replaced by the japanese model. I know for sure I saw the "old type" when I was buying my Saturn (I never got one of the old ones). They look like this:

I presume the "new" ones, which coincide with the japanese form factor, is well known, but it is this one:

I've got 2 of the old chubby saturn controllers... Those are the only ones I have aside from my arcade stick ( http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/0/7/2/8/ ... 440_tp.jpg ) and the Sega wheel
When I had my old saturn, I had 1 chubby controller, 2 new skinny ones and a NiGHTS 3D pad. I actually prefer the chubby controllers to the skinny ones.

Thanks for the info - I was surprised when I first saw these controllers (I have a Japanese Saturn and all Japanese games and accessories). At the moment I'm writing up a guide to all known first party and lisenced controllers and input devices for the Sega Saturn.
