Are remakes of Metal Gear 1 & 2 worth 40 bucks?

Anything that is gaming related that doesn't fit well anywhere else

There is no Metal Gear 2 unless you count Snake's Revenge, which you shouldn't.

If the OP wants to play MGS and MGS2, then I'd suggest bleemcast or "Twin Snakes" on the Crube (mispelling intentional) for MGS, and obviously MGS2 on the PS2.

Carry on.

Yes, because it is really the only reason I'm interested in the package.

isn't he talking about the ports of the MSX2 games?
Yes, I am. I already played through Metal Gear Solid 1-4 and just wonder wether the very first two Metal Gears are worth the effort.

I also read somewhere that many gameplay elements of Metal Gear Solid were already present in Metal Gear 2.

You betcha! I was a little surprised that everyone else didn't jump on the fact that Metal gear Solid wasn't the start of Metal Gear.

$40 for subsistence???? i'm looking right at a complete copy (both disks included) for $19.99 that ends in about 1 hour and 45 mins and $4 to ship.

Like one of the other posters said, it's the ONLY way to play thru the msx versions of metal gear 1 &2 . that is unless, you have the msx versions.

BTW, here's the link if you're interested (and it's not my auction either)

I actually played all of the Metal Gear games in order (Metal Gear 1 & 2, MGS 1-4); the story of the first 2 games is actually included and talked about in the later MGS games so it is interesting to hear. I played them through the Subsistence disc and thought they were pretty good (though I needed to use an online walkthrough for direction). You should be able to find it for less than $40 though.

I played through both and I would definitely say they were worth the money. Of course I got the collector's edition of Subsistence so I the amount I spent was pretty good compared to what its worth now. The two earlier games really do help explain the Metal Gear cannon better so you know a little bit better whats going on (though still confusing no matter what).
