I was playing it until last night when I beat it.

Keep an eye on the site because once the current orders ship, they'll take new orders from what I've read.

It is one of the best rpgs for the Genesis/MD. You can tell they put a lot of time and effort into it.

If you like the style of Lunar & Phantasy Star, the odds are you'll enjoy Pier Solar imo.

At this moment, you cannot buy it new, but they will probably make a new batch of reprint editions. The reprint edition lacks the soundtrack CD, unfortunately. It is possible to download and burn your own soundtrack CD for free, I should mention.

If you don't like the idea of buying a half ass version of the game, your only hope is ebay. I've seen them sell for anywhere between $150 to $300. They only produced a total of 2400 copies of the original best version of the game. (3 sets of 800 copies, for each regional style of packaging.)

As for playing a rom via an emulator, it won't work. No emulator currently exists that can properly run this game. I am not sure if the Everdrive flash cart would work or not. Maybe it would, since you can use it on official Sega hardware. However it may not be able to support the large game size. Pier Solar is 64 mb, which makes it the largest Mega Drive game.

tl;dr
If you insist on getting the original cart + cd combo, buy it off ebay asap before prices really get absurd.

If you don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on ebay, go to the pier solar site and register on their forums so you can join their mailing list. When the next batch of reprint editions are available, they will send you an email.

On one hand, it's cool that they would release a limited amount of classic editions of the game, so collectors and investors can be happy. On the other hand, it's bullshit because games are more about playing and enjoying than making money from. At least, I think they should be.

Do you know how much the last reprints were? If I'm paying for it I'd rather the cash went to the people who made it, rather than some ebay seller

The original game was $35 and the reprint was $45.

They did indeed raise the price for an inferior version. However, the price is still far below what it could be.

The most recent date I've seen Zebbe (one of the makers) say was around Feb. 14th. Just keep checking it's worth it.

To defend the developers, they charged slightly more for the reprint to try and make up some of the money they lost producing the game and the preorder editions.

It's not really an "inferior" version, they changed the box art and didnt include the enhanced cd... the funny thing is me along with a few other people can't get the original CD that came with the game to work, something about the original hardware has a hard time reading all of the content at the right speed... the ISO they provide (doesn't include some of the extra promo stuff) is like a stripped down soundtrack CD that works perfectly, so unless you are a genesis collector/completionist, the reprint edition is a hell of a bargain.

THEY WILL be making more reprint editions, confirmed on a thread I posted in on their forums a while ago. For being a non profit independant dev team spread across multiple continents, they sure did an amazing job with the packaging, the art, the prodution as a whole, and most importantly the game.

I played the demo a couple years ago, and got into the beta testing group... these guys are amazing at what they do. Don't pay the ebay scammers, support an indie developer by buying from them.
