graphics are ancient, but the style is great and playability is top notch. this game never gets boring! hard core Japanese drift racing action. But not like Initial D, this is a little more life like.

The F-Zero series. Preferably X (64), GX (GCN), and GP Legend (GBA) are some of my favorites.

If you're looking for a good "drive around at my own pace" kinda thing, Burnout Paradise is what you want. Unfortunately, support is slowly waning for it, still a great game.

NASCAR games aren't actually that bad if you're into NASCAR, so 2005: Chase For The Cup is a decent choice. Sucks there hasn't been a good NASCAR game since then (and I haven't tried Gran Turismo 5 so cut me some slack on this one.) If you're willing to fork over the dough for a REAL racing sim on the PC, get NASCAR Racing 2003 Season. Don't let the 2003 turn you off (let the price tag do that) but there is many communities for this game out there that keep the game updated with current rosters and tracks. Pretty cool if you ask me.

Finally, gotta give credit where credit is due and say the Mario Kart series like everyone else it. Personal recommendation is Super Mario Kart (SNES) and Mario Kart DS, but that's just me.

Saturn: Daytona USA [I'm in the minority when I say that I strongly prefer this game to Sega Rally.]

I'm with you on this one. The draw distance isn't that great, but everything else (control, sound, fun factor) is perfect. I also prefer it to Sega Rally.

There are other games I'd rate up to 4.5 on fun factor. These are just the ones that top the scale for me. I have not played F-Zero GX or Mario Kart: Double Dash, for example. Nor did I bother to consider portable games (or else there'd be a few more on the list). Finally, you might notice that most of these games are arcade racers. While I do like the sim games like Gran Turismo, the arcade style is my first choice. Yes, I do like Namco games... I would definitely put some of them at 4/5 or 4.5/5 fun factor. The Burnout games, also.

Why not do yourself a favor and give BG2 a go. It has wide screen support and the graphics are simple, but clean. the gameplay is 100% hardcore arcade racing driftness!
I second F-zero GX for which alone I bought a gc with wavebird and component cable for.
Someday I will get the GC version of Auto Modellista

I own BG2. It's a great game, but BG3 is better, IMO.

In BG2 I unlocked all the tracks and have the SW20 tuned and Imprezza tuned. I really want the 400 HP Nissan GTR32, but to get that I have to win *** difficulty on some mountain stretch.
There´s lots of other secrets like the 5 star difficulty when you keep square pressed at the track selection screen.

In BG3 I completed (C and) B with an integra. I have yet to complete A and S class.

I love racing games, but I think I'd need a wheel controller to really get into them properly and I just can't take the plunge. Too embarassing; I'd have to hide it in a closet and only get it out when no-one was home. Some games of course absolutely cry out for a wheel and so I tend to prefer more arcade-y stuff.

Two old favorites for PS1 are Jet Moto (great track designs) and NFS: High Stakes. More recently, I've had a lot of fun with Burnout Paradise and Sega All-Stars Racing for the 360. Burnout Paradise is amazing, but I can't believe they didn't put in some kind of shortcut system to skip to the starting line. I get frustrated with that one.
