Not sure why you don't have a phone. At the very least, you can pick up a Tracfone. Not calling in and not having a reliable ride doesn't help with your job status.
I know a bunch of people without phones - landline or cell phones. Some because of a stubbornness, but most because of an extreme lack of funds - interestingly, most also do not have cars. Not saying either applies to you, just that I understand exactly what you went through and that it was not just a case of you being irresponsible. It probably usually causes no issue, but there is always the possibility of an emergency. I hope your work understands, but I am sure they will give you the "it is your responsibility to have a way into work or contact us as it says on the application" response. It is true to a point, but if you are a hard worker and have not caused problems before than you deserve a chance to explain yourself.
Bosses can be such a-holes: I read today that Thursday NYC's mayor emailed all state employees saying they should stay home because of the weather unless they were emergency personnel. Seems they now are being threatened with fines and a loss of paid days off for not showing up... am I missing something here?
BIG Smile: I may finally be getting out of my dismal little town! Talks have begun with an old friend about my going to live in Richmond, VA with him. I'd be going to a better school, in a much more alive area (believe me, this little town is DEAD). I'm so excited!
Ticked off: I work at Wal-Mart. I worked a 9 hour shift today. Reason enough.

So I'm guessing you contribute to thepeopleofwalmart.com?

Haha, I want to! When I was a Pharmacy Tech I used to send some things in. Now that I'm a lowly cashier though, I would get murdered if they saw any device with a camera so I can't.

My ride will probably get a mouthful when/if I see them again tonight.
Ok, but you should at least call in and not just show up. Couldn't you ask a neighbor to use their phone? Or find a payphone (do they exist anymore? ) but you shouldn't just not show up. That's bad.
I work overnight, so my shift was 11pm - 8am. Neighbors generally don't appreciate being woken up in the middle of the night... My rides are kind of unreliable as it is, often they won't show up until 10 minutes before I have to be at work.
@vash23n: I really appreciate your understanding. Explaining myself is really all I can do. It's wal-mart though, and being what it is I'm not sure how much that will help.
oh yes and
Smile: Found out the english dvd for Puni Puni Poemy has a subtitle option for pig latin.
Well a little update on that situation, I had to call in today, the manager seemed pretty understanding about it all. We've gotten caught up in that massive snowstorm that seems to have engulfed most of the country, and this being Texas most of us weren't very prepared for it.
“The White Stripes do not belong to Meg and Jack anymore. The White Stripes belong to you now and you can do with it whatever you want."
Does that mean all their music is free now?

Ticked - Verizon said it is going to cost me $400 to upgrade to the phone I want to, despite using my current phone for five years and been a subscriber for 10. Smiled - I can get the same exact phone for $99 off Amazon via their cellphone store.
