SamSho3 gets dumped on more than it deserves- it introduced substantial changes to the series. Of course, coming after the second installment, it had huge expectations to live up to. I haven't played the Saturn version, but the PS1 port is terrible- and its more than just the load limes. Presumably, the Saturn one has RAM cart support, so it should be OK.

4 is still the superior game since it retained the best elements of 3 and dispensed with the rest. I actually place 4 as second only to 2 in the series.

The only problem I have with the Saturn version of 4 is that the sound effects take a hit. In the AES/MVS version, sword clashes are delightfully loud, but sadly muffled on Saturn. Audio is redbook, though.

Seriously? Wow; I guess this is an extremely rare instance where the cartridge version of a game has better-quality audio than the CD version! That's the Neo-Geo for you, I guess.

I've got both for my Neo Geo MVS. Go with SS IV.

The musical audio is redbook, and it sounds great- better than the Neo cart. The sound effects, however, are from RAM and are sampled at a lower rate than the cart. All of the animation is pretty much intact, so I guess the sound FX fidelity was sacrificed in favor of animation.
