What's the point of posting random reviews of games you haven't played before?

Donkey Kong for the NES only includes 3 of the 4 arcade levels. They play good though. Recently a rom has come out with the missing cement factory level. Options to play it on a NES would be flash or reproduction.

I have not played Donkey Kong for Game Boy (on my want list) which is often referred to as Donkey Kong '94. My understanding is that it starts off with the four arcade levels (which makes it an improvement on the NES already) and then adds 97 levels! It also has Super Game Boy support for improved audio and visuals beyond the standard Super Game Boy enhancements.

I can recommend Donkey Kong Country 1 and 2 but haven't played 3. Great graphics and sound for the SNES. I haven't beat either one of them but they're good platformers with some good humor. I've been hearing some trash talk lately about this series saying it's way overhyped. A recent example of this was in a random podcast I listen to called After the Fact. They spent an hour and a half ripping it apart to the extent they sounded tacky and annoying. These games were re-released for Game Boy Advance with added material.

I have Donkey Kong Land 1 and 2 and I highly suggest not playing them on the original Game Boy which it is compatible with. The characters blend in with the background making it pretty hard to play. Pop it in the Game Boy Color and you don't have this problem. Super Game Boy adds borders but everything still blends in with the background.

Mario Vs. Donkey Kong (Game Boy Advance) is the sequel to Donkey Kong '94 for Game Boy picking up where it left off. I like it a lot but from everything I've read it isn't as good as Donkey Kong '94. Very polished game in the audio and graphics with FMV and lots of voice samples. Each level is split up into two parts making it great for on the go seeing as how it's divided into sub-level/level/chapter increments. Puzzle platformer with action-oriented boss levels fighting Donkey Kong.

And shouldn't this be in the Nintendo thread?

If you are any sort of gamer you have to play Donkey Kong Country 1-3 on the SNES. For some reason these are games I can keep going back to play over and over and over. The graphics are great (especially for SNES); the platforming is spot on (and advances with the series); and there are quite a few secrets/collectibles for 100%+ completion. The one thing that has stuck with me from these games is the music though... I can't explain how great the soundtracks for these games are. I would rate them as some of the best soundtracks to ever grace video games. If that isn't enough recommendation I don't know what is

Donkey Kong Country Returns for the Wii is also a really fun game. The game has a ton of replay value and it actually has some new twists for 2-D platforming. It is definitely fan-service to the Country series, but I feel that the soundtrack for this game is not as strong and catchy compared to the SNES games.

I got my wife Mario vs Donkey Kong: Mini Land Mayhem for Christmas and she loves it; I played it for a little bit and it was a pretty fun game. More puzzle based.

Look, I really don't like platformers, and the only one of these games I've ever really gotten into was Donkey Kong Country 2, but this right here would be the biggest reason why I go back to the DKC series. I will seriously pause the game and just listen to the music, it is some of the most mellow, soothing, and frankly majestic music I have ever heard. No matter how irritated I may get with a particular level, just pausing and listening for a while helps me relax far better than most games I can think of. Just thinking about it makes me want to go play one of these games again.

I love the Killer Instinct music and the included Killer Cuts CD is off the chain. Would have rather had an included DKC CD. The DKC water music puts me somewhere.....

Wow, I actually knew NOTHING about the Gameboy Donkey Kong and just assumed it was an arcade conversion. Thanks for introducing me to this gem.

From a historical perspective, Donkey Kong carries a lot more weight because it was Nintendo's first video game hit, and was Shigeru Miyamoto's first game (the guy that created Donkey Kong, Mario, and Zelda).

However, from a gameplay perspective, I'd DEFINETLY say that Donkey Kong Country is a better game. That is one of the greatest games on the SNES, nay, one of the greatest games of all-time.

I concur with the positive sentiments shared by the other members about Donkey Kong Country 1-3, those are truly incredible games. I find them to be nothing short of extraordinary in every category; whether it be music, graphics, gameplay, etc.

I really enjoyed Donkey Kong Country 2 and the first one is solid, though it's graphics and sound stand out a bit more than the gameplay. I disagree with a previous comment about Donkey Kong Country Returns being fan service for DKC fans. It actually abandons a lot of what made those games fun and feels like they wanted to create something of their own rather than maintain the spirit of the originals. Still a good game though, but less fun than the SNES games
